What is wrong with me

I’m 47, overweight by 2 stone. I feel tired, my body feels heavy, it’s exhausting to lift my arms. They feel like lead weights. Walking exhausts me. I have no energy at all for anything. I eat pretty well, drink alcohol at weekends but not to excess. I am active all day in the sense that I don’t sit around - I move with work, domestic jobs etc. I do sit and watch tv from around 8/9 in the evening. I don’t really exercise though, except for walking the dogs but not much else. Why do I feel so sluggish and heavy and tired all the time? Is it the 2 stone extra weight? I have been overweight by this much for almost 8 years.

Menopause? I am in similar boat but older. HRT has helped with energy.

Oh maybe I guess. Menstrual cycle is pretty reliable and unchanged but I’m at the right age for change

I have issues with fatigue, part of having Long Covid. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can happen to anyone though. Depression can make you feel tired and heavy too. I’m sure there’s more issues it could be. A doctor could help find the answers. I gained some weight with pregnancy last year and now I’ve lost the weight I do feel better. The health issues are still there, but that extra weight made a big difference. It could be a combination of factors. But if you don’t address the issues it could compound and get worse over time. Better to make it a priority to figure out what’s going on.

Could it be thyroid issues? My mums was underactive and she was so tired and put weight on.
i would ask doctor for blood tests to check blood count for thyroid, anaemia, vitamin levels etc.

Check your b12 - feretin - vit D first

Not being able to lift your arms without pain sounds like polymyalgia. It's worth a trip to the doctor.

My first thought is fibromyalgia which has all your symptoms and hormonal changes can be a trigger, as it was for me.
Peri menopause
Thyroid problems
Vitamin deficiency( b12)?
See your GP and ask for blood test but if you can afford it Thriva are very compressive and you could have above plus hba1c( long range blood glucose) to check for T2 diabetes

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/09/2023 11:11

Comprehensive sorry

Mabelface · 06/09/2023 13:12

Vitamin d deficiency and/or peri menopause did that to me.

Thank you all, this is a long list of things to try and cross off.
