A little Blue Tit flew into our glass door. I picked it up as there were cats about. It refused to leave my finger for about 15 mins then settled in a bush and flew off after about 30 mins.

ive never been up close to one. They are so tiny but exquisitely beautiful little things. Felt like such a privilege and I wanted to share ❤️

Lovely picture. I little finch flew into my patio door and knocked himself out a few weeks ago. I popped the little thing into a shoe box to recover and then set it fee late.

smashburger · 04/09/2023 23:13

What a beautiful experience 🩵🩵
Please let us know if it comes back tomorrow!

khartoon · 04/09/2023 23:54

Lovely. My partner told me how to distinguish from the great tits. The blues have "bandit eyes". I love seeing the little bandits raid the suet block.

You do realise that you are now officially a
Disney Princess don't you?

I didn’t think of that! I’m not really a Disney princess kind of person but in this instance I’ll not object!

there are a whole family of blue tits chirping away in the garden so I’m going to assume he/she is one of them!

they are called Jackie-blue tits where I live and are lovely. Google Long Tailed tits for extra loveliness as they are adorable...like little pompoms

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 05/09/2023 18:25

I do hope you have a bird feeder for your new friend so they can come back and back ..

Year13novice · 05/09/2023 18:28

A beautiful photo. May I send it to my elderly mum. She will love it. She won’t share it as she won’t know how!

CollieDug · 05/09/2023 19:05

@Gatekeeper i LOVE the Pom poms!

@Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 I do! They’re feeding away

Long-tailed tits are also called bumbarrels, due to the shape of their nests.

https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/b/notesonnature/posts/this-weekend-spot-a-bumbarrel

Apparently their collective noun is 'zephyr'; I can't resist using the phrase 'a zephyr of bumbarrels' on the slightest provocation.Grin

And here's a little treat

A lovely story with a happy ending. Well done for saving him, he is beautiful.

SorrowsPrayers · 05/09/2023 19:36

I'm training to be a bird ringer so I regularly handle Bluetits and other garden birds. They are all so beautiful and tiny. I just love it!
From your photo I would say that your bluetit was a juvenile, born this year.

ScottBakula · 05/09/2023 19:50

Aww @CollieDug s/he is beautiful, well done for saving the little feathed one

@SorrowsPrayers , ooh would you mind telling us a bit more about your job? Why do they need ringing ? ( I presume it's a ID ring not a piece of jewellery 😃)

Sexnotgender · 05/09/2023 19:53

Beautiful ❤️

RosyCheekBird · 05/09/2023 19:55

Wonderful ☺️☺️☺️

SorrowsPrayers · 05/09/2023 20:03

@ScottBakula
Hi, it's not a paid job, just a voluntary scheme through the British Trust for Ornithology ( in the Uk...other schemes in other countries).
In its broadest terms it promotes research that contributes to conservation and scientific knowledge of birds.
Practically, birds are trapped in a number of ways, examined to ascertain species, sex, age, health, given a ring with a unique number, then released. All the data is input into a central system. If a bird is recaptured or recovered, it's data is again recorded.
I have found it much more difficult than I imagined that it would be as my menopausal brain struggles to retain any information, but it is very rewarding.
The link below has the full information. I would encourage anyone with an interest in birds or science to consider it.
