Is this thrush?

I had a confirmed UTI last week which I took a 3-day course of nitro for.

Think the infection is gone (wee isn’t smelly, doesn’t feel like I need to urgently go to the toilet etc), but now whenever I do go for a wee, I am still left in discomfort. It feels itchy and sore “down there” and generally like I just want to sit down with my legs tightly crossed (but no feelings of needing the loo, if that makes any sense).

I rang the GP and they said it could be thrush, so I should try that, but also prescribed me co-amoxiclav for another 7 days. However, I am really hesitant to take that because of the side effects (nitro made me feel really sick).

So, I’ve been applying canesten external cream 2-3 times a day now since Friday but it doesn’t seem to be getting better.

Should I try sudocreme? Or perhaps get a pessary or the thrush tablet?

I know if I ring my GP again they will just say take the antibiotics and then see how you are.

I think some antibiotics have this as a side effect unfortunately, thrush has a “white cottage cheese like discharge” if that is what you are experiencing sorry I know that sounds horrible!

I would try a pessary and see if that helps

do a canesten test

try also changing the soap or shower gel you use, it might ease the itching a little.

it sounds as if you still have an infection to be honest.

Yes, it sounds like it. It's really common after antibiotics
The best treatment I've found is a Flucanazole oral tablet and Canestan for the area
You do need the antibiotics if you still have the infection which can spread to the kidneys
Think you may be able to get the capsule and cream called duo or something now
Oral tablet is less messy than the pessary
Ask at the pharmacy
Thrush is so uncomfortable, I know

Not sure I've phrased it correctly but I'd get the Flucanazole now then see
Or a Canestan pessary if you prefer that

I always get thrush after antibiotics it's really very unpleasant. I second fluconazole tablet and cream combo. Not the cheapest about £15 but worth every penny and only thing that consistently clears it and keeps it gone

I would strongly advise against using Sudocreme (bitter experience!). If it is thrush, I’d agree you need to try either the pessary or the tablet alongside the cream.

Okay so it really stings now after weeing. I think the canesten cream is making it worse

You need to clear it internally first, the cream is soothing but isn't strong enough

I’ve taken the tablet and also the pessary tonight. When should I expect to feel better (if it is thrush)?

Usually starts feeling a bit better 24/48hrs later, good luck op it's a really unpleasant experience
