...would put X into a coma

This is entirely inconsequential but I'm curious. I keep seeing those short reels that Facebook provide now and a few of them follow the format "Things in X country that would put Americans into a coma" and then show examples of things that Americans would apparently find shockingly strange. Today's example was dogs being allowed in Dutch cafes and bars.

What I find odd is that if I were using the phrase sending someone into a coma it would be because it's something so tedious it sends someone to sleep, like a coma. But these videos always seem to make it that something is so suprising it tips the person into a coma, like fainting with shock I suppose.

Would you use it to mean something really boring or the opposite like these videos and something shocking?

I can't say I've seen this but frankly wouldn't use it for either as it doesn't even make sense does it - people unfortunate enough to be in a coma are unconscious and experiencing a medical emergency. They've not drifted off to sleep from boredom.

The joys of social media.

I do tend to slip into a coma in work team meetings. Obviously not from shock.
