Hello all

6 year old DD has an upset tummy

Vomited twice on Saturday now sleepy and off school today

Calpol (for sore tummy) lots of water and some 7up helping

What do you all find useful in these instances?

Oh and -
Flat 7up or fizzy?

My family swear by it
I don't know

Just keeping a close eye
She is never sick so this is all new to me xxxxxxx

Rather than fizzy drinks - which only work if the full sugar version - proper rehydration sachets (diarolyte). I found these always helped my dc feel better quicker.

Plus plain food - toast, apples, rice and just knowing they do take a bit of time to get over. Hope none of the rest of you catch it 🤞

7 up used to work before they took the sugar out but flat not fizzy.
Rehydration sachets such as dioralyte
Dry toast or dry crackers.

Time. With any luck it will be gone in 1-2 days. In the meantime ice pops for rehydration.

Keep liquids up, ideally water. DD goes for bread sticks if she's under the weather - dry, light and not too much fibre.

Flat full sugar cola with a pinch of salt, GP recommended when poorly dc refused rehydration sachets.

Another vote for flat full fat coke. Ready salted crisps too.

WanderingWitches · 04/09/2023 14:35

We use lucozade sport. It's full of glucose and electrolytes and isn't fizzy.
Be careful though, they do one without sugar now too.

Theoldwoman · 04/09/2023 14:42

The BRAT diet once eating. I’ve done this since mine were small, now they are adults, they still go by it.

A heat pack. A warm bath, snuggly blanket. Only use medication if temperature. Let rest. Plenty of fluids.

mrsbyers · 04/09/2023 14:42

Discourage her from drinking a lot of plain water as it’ll just flush electrolytes - sips of something like diahoralite or rehydration drinks are best. Don’t buy smart water though despite its promise of electrolytes just a big con

Oh my gosh fab !!

I know I have google. I just wanted to pick up some tested tips

Plus she is never sick so I was doubting myself

Flat full fat juice.

Crisps

Toast when they feel up to it.

McDonald's cheeseburger (plain) always goes down a treat with my kids when they're unwell.

Ice lollies.

Chewing gum to get the taste of sick out their mouth if the tooth brush is a vom trigger.

Eve223 · 04/09/2023 14:50

Full fat coke
Ready salted crisps
Crusty white bread, or any other white bread.

whatsinanameeh · 04/09/2023 14:50

Ice, lollies and milk of magnesia and full power over the remote control

JanesBlond · 04/09/2023 14:54

Lucozade sport - replenishes electrolytes. Plain pasta/rice/toast/crackers.
And for diarrhoea, loperamide (not for under 12s).

ICanSeeMyHouseFromHere · 04/09/2023 14:54

Nothing for about half a day (mine don't get sick often, but when they do, nothing stays down)

Then sips of boiled/cooled water - if they keep that down, a couple of hours later, something plain like a digestive biscuit.

Works for us. youngest found it to be torture, but then rushed the water one day, threw it all back up, and decided that perhaps he'd stick to the plan.
