I've name changed as am paranoid about them tracking me.
I had a student loan between 1992-95. It was £5k. I never earnt enough to have to pay it back and deferred it for years. Over time the process for deferring it got more and more onerous especially once I moved abroad and to be honest I just couldn't be fucked with dealing with them not answering emails/faxes/international phone calls etc so stopped doing anything about it.
All my fault and responsibility.
I came back to the UK fifteen years ago and got refused a tenancy because the credit check showed a ccj against me, from 2003. I did a bit of digging and found out it was for a bulk hearing, for student loans. I also got a couple of letters from a company called capquest demanding money. I looked into this company and they have bought up student loans. I ignored them.
I applied for a tenancy with a different agent, nothing showed up in the check and life went on. Capquest didn't write to me at my new address or any address after.
Now suddenly I have had a letter from a company called INTRUM demanding this money from me. What should I do? After all this time I really thought it would have gone away. I am 51 and under the original terms my loan is written off at age 50.
