What fun things do you do an an older adult?

I‘ve been raising my children since age 21 so I haven’t had much of a social life other than play dates and family days out hiking since then.

Now that the little ones aren’t so little anymore I’ve started to get out a bit more on my own, but everyone seems to be really young compared to me and it’s making me feel really self conscious and out of place! I feel like I should be at home ironing and washes the dishes.

I must have missed the memo, where do we go to have fun once we’re older?

I go to quite a few gigs, stand up and music. Also festivals are ideal for all ages.
I wonder what sort of places you frequent? Most bars, clubs and restaurants round me have the majority of customers aged 35+
The only place I feel a bit too old is the local skate park!

I do most of my socialising through hobby based clubs, with the odd weekend meet up with my "gang" who are quite spread across the country these days.

I go to a couple of very lively knitting groups, they're fun enough for me!

Fun?

Cost of living sky high.
Mortgage rate rises.
NHS on its knees.
School buildings about to collapse.

All these things happening and you want to go about having fun!
No, it’s time to sit at home , in the dark , fretting.
Give your head a wobble.
😉😁😁😁

How’s your career, @Awandering? It may be that you were able to make steady progress while your children were small - but if not, you might now want to use some of your new free time and independence to really push foreword. Maybe study for an advance qualification or apply for jobs that are a step up?

Part of the reason I’m saying this (apart from the obvious) is that it sounds as if your social life and opportunities for fun haven’t ‘matured’. The minute you start a new venture - work / study - you’ll meet new people engaged in things you don’t yet do.

For myself: last week I went to the launch of an opera festival - it involved an audio walk, accessed by mobile phone and headphones in and around Regent’s Park, using GPS location software. New music, new people, a four mile walk and wine at the end …

(Hmm ‘advanced’!)

We like to treat ourselves to nights away in hotels!
