I wish there was a shop which sold Giusto/Hello Fresh style meal kits

I know about five years ago Tesco had a thing with a recipe card then most of the ingredients in one place, but that went away.

It's so hard for me to think of meals and then shop for them. I know it's not actually hard, but something about it exhausts me.

We do click and collect so the basket needs to be at about £50 before you can check out. I find supermarkets overwhelming.

I wish you could just walk in, pick up a bag: 'in this bag is everything for spag bol', 'in this bag everything for a roast dinner,' 'heres a fancy stuffed mushroom starter with everything you need in this one bag' 'a posh dinner party meal.'

Yes, I know they would probably populate the bags with meat which is on the turn, and the bruised veg, but still.

With the meal kit things:

  • ££££
  • you still have to select the meals, or else you get sent the shitty default ones.
  • you get an enormous box with a wool blanket insulation thing. So much wasteful packaging. Yes the portions are packaged too but that doesn't compare to a huge box.

The lollipop app sort of does this? I read about it on here. Have t tried it myself yet but plan to..

Ocado have recipes and you can click "buy ingredients" and it lists them all so you can pick the ones you need to go into your basket. So you can choose from different pack sizes, or leave out salt because you've already got it or whatever. It's not quite the same as it isn't all portioned out but it is better than trying to work it out from scratch.

Why not just get Gousto? The wool insulation is long gone, and it takes all of five mins to choose your recipes for the week.

I can't really afford it. And when we got hello fresh it just had like three evening meals. But I need seven evening meals, plus lunch on the weekends.

As in, our budget was 3 meals from them. I'm sure there are people who get a box with ten meals.

Have you tried Simply Cook? You get a box with sauces and spices, and the recipe card has a tear-off shopping list for the rest of the ingredients (there usually aren't many). If you use the app you can link it to your supermarket app to add the ingredients to your basket automatically.

I've been using it for ages, and really like the recipes, they're much more interesting than Hello Fresh, which got very boring. Plus you can switch ingredients up if you don't like their suggestions.

If you want to try it, here's a link for a free box -

I was going to suggest Simply Cook too! You can actually get them in Tesco now rather than ordering online.

Morrisons do this as well.
