Help - news hoodie fibres transferring onto clothes worn under them

DP recently bought a hoodie and it transfers coloured fibres all over whatever he wears under it. Does anyone know if there's a way to stop this happening? I seem to remember I had a top like this years ago and ended up chucking it away as no matter how many times I washed it, it kept happening. If anyone has a solution I can pass on to him, I'd be grateful.

I return it and get a refund as its sort of faulty really isn't it and unwearable

The hoody needs to be put inside out and washed and tumbled dried several times to get rid of these fibres. The tumble drying is critical IME, washing alone won't get them off.

Thanks. Will get him to give that a go!

It's from his football team's official shop believe it or not. They're all like that. His dad got a different colour and is experiencing the same problem. They want to keep them, so prefer to find a solution. It's not the odd one in a batch like that, it's just how they are.

Make sure to clean the filter in your washing machine because the fibres might get caught up in there

Just wash it a few times inside out any you'll be fine

Will do 👍

Yes do wipe the seal inside the door too. We had an issue with green m and s socks that left fibres behind and the next (white) wash was all stained from the residue from the previous wash.

His hoodie is black and his dad’s is green, so will def make sure to do that! Thank you 😊

Yes - I should have added about cleaning the washing machine afterwards. Hot empty wash and wipeout.

You could also turn it inside out and run the vacuum cleaner over it before washing/drying. I would use just the tube if that makes sense. DP could put it on inside out and help to hold the fabric while you run the tube up and down the fabric.

Washing it a few times will solve this.

Wearing a top of a similar colour underneath would be sensible (wearing a white t-shirt under a red hoodie, or a black t-shirt under a light-grey hoodie is asking for visible fibre transfer).

Use a lint roller.

Avoid hoodies with fleecy linings in future.

Good idea re the hoover. Will try that too. Him and his dad have a month or two until it gets cold enough here to wear them, so hopefully with some hoovering, washing and drying they’ll be sorted by the time the cooler nights kick in!

DP can wear a black T-shirt under it. His dad’s is green (the team colours are green and white), so he’s going to have more of a problem as he doesn’t have any other green clothes. They have some time before the cold weather kicks in though, so hopefully following the suggestions on here will sort it. No idea why the football club used this material for their official hoodie. I’m sure everyone will be complaining about it!
