Did the Barbie movie make you cry?

I saw it yesterday and I absolutely loved it.

The ending made me very emotional and I definitely wasn’t the only one in the cinema crying.

I felt like I could really relate to the whole film - life isn’t perfect, there’s lots of change, stereotypical Barbie not feeling like she is good at anything (pretty much how I feel most of the time).

Did anyone else find it emotional?

No. It made me cringe.

It could've been an entertaining film if they'd kept it fluffy rather than preachy.

ilovebagpuss · 03/09/2023 09:00

No it made me laugh a lot! It was good, my teen DD cried who never cries at anything.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 03/09/2023 09:02

I was quite bored to be honest.

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/09/2023 09:02

Yes i cried!😂 My DD(22) did too. Nothing wrong with letting your feelings flow.

RampantIvy · 03/09/2023 09:03

Erm, no.

Moonberri · 03/09/2023 09:04

I cried at America Ferrari's "rant" about expectations of women. It just hit home to me how much pressure I am under compared to my DH, for example.

What a boring film, I was done after 15 minutes

I laughed heartily throughout that whilst thinking "yep!"

showmethegin · 03/09/2023 09:10

Yes, saw it last night and cried twice 😂

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/09/2023 09:11

I think the reels of childhood memories of daughters with mums was what tipped me over . But then I cry at lots of films.

megletthesecond · 03/09/2023 09:12

Yes, a bit during the Billie Eilish song near the end.

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 03/09/2023 09:13

Been twice, didn't cry but think it's brilliant

Happyface120 · 03/09/2023 09:14

Yes! Through most of the film. As did DD12. Loved it!

Freshair1 · 03/09/2023 09:15

What was I made for? Cue montage of mummies and children. Super progressive.

MooseBreath · 03/09/2023 09:15

No. I didn't even think there was a part that people would cry at, to be honest. America Ferrera's speech about being a woman certainly rang true though.

Danikm151 · 03/09/2023 09:15

I cried at the bit where the daughter didn’t want to play with the Barbies anymore and wanted to give my mom a hug!

Tadpolle · 03/09/2023 09:22

Filled up a few times but not sobs. Lots of laughs, and times when I thought YESS! I think it's brilliant.

Well having a mother is how we all arrive on the planet… pretty universal experience

silentpool · 03/09/2023 09:25

It depressed me. Barbie symbolised all we were meant to be but it turns out it was just a 1979's/80's pipe dream.

Edited

That made my 19 year old cry which set me off!

JenniferBarkley · 03/09/2023 09:27

I loved it, and I cried at the mother and daughter bits.

America Ferrara's speech is very true but I found it a bit clunky in the movie so it didn't particularly get to me.

doroda · 03/09/2023 09:31

I liked it, it made me laugh a lot, but didn't cry (and I tear up often at films)

yeahthisisit · 03/09/2023 09:42

No.
Didn’t find it funny either.
I was really frustrated with the movie, after reading how feminist and never-been-a-movie-like-this, I really thought it would be something else.
And the rage some men had about this mivie, I really thought I was going to be a middle finger to the patriarchy and men, women going their own way.
It was really dissapointing and the speech was just pretty shallow stuff, ie. wearing make-up, being thin and being a mother.
What’s feminist about that?

isthismylifenow · 03/09/2023 09:50

No I didn't and I was trying to work out which part everyone was saying they cried about at the end. I saw it recently so shouldn't have listened to all the hype as I was a bit underwhelmed.

Willmafrockfit · 03/09/2023 09:54

no
i laughed a lot
