I've been taking an iron supplement, ferrous sulphate and I drink wine and water I noticed the water is also high in sulphate?

What on earth should i drink or eat?

It's a preservative I think. So water from the tap, herbal tea, cooking from scratch using basic ingredients, not eating ready-prepared things.

Think your muddling up sulphate and sulphite.

DrasticAction · 02/09/2023 18:45

Probably this is blood test.

But how to lower it?

Sulphate is in water?

Did the doctor that ordered the blood tests not discuss it with you?
Have they not offered advice?

were there other tests done at the same time?

PinkRoses1245 · 02/09/2023 19:29

Do you mean sulphites? It’s a preservative. If you want to avoid it you’ll have to eat whole food only and no wine!

HipHipWhoRay · 02/09/2023 19:30

Sulphites and sulphate are not measured in routine hospital tests. Is this some internet ordered blood test? If so be wary of the result.

Greybeardy · 02/09/2023 19:35

serum sulphate measurement is rather niche and you should take the advice of whoever ordered the test. The result of the rest of the tests and the reason they were testing it in the first place will be important in interpreting it and managing it.

@ratspeaker it's a little complicated but the results came in the post today and may doctor, doesn't open on a weekend.

I get extremely anxious about this stuff and it could be a long time before I speak to them about the results hence asking on here.

@HipHipWhoRay

No it's investigating a particular condition via hospital. Everything else looks roughly ok u think but this one is double the 7

If memory serves, sulphates are in bottled water, and cleaners like soap and shampoo.

Sulphites are a preservatives, and are in processed food.

Which are you trying to avoid?

Using tap water, and fresh food should remove most high sources.

ratspeaker · 03/09/2023 11:43

I think it’s best to chat to doctor especially if they’re investigating for a certain condition rather than trying to limit food or drink just yet. The results could be linked to the condition or maybe not. Any treatment they offer may change the results
