What can I do to make September better? End of holiday blues

Going home from holiday tomorrow. Friends we were with left last night. Feeling so meh about going back to real life.

Don’t love our neighbourhood (I really want to move house, but DC are so happy where we live that I’m stuck - it is a nice place just not “me”), really hate school run as it’s in the car, don’t have local friends, generally feeling blue.

What can I plan in September / October to make life better?

I don't know, but I hear you! We're just back from a week in a holiday park that was putting out all the Halloween and Christmas stuff while we were there - wondered why the last week of the school hols was a few hundred quid cheaper, was that why? It was really depressing after looking forward to it all year!

Have you tried meeting other women/local school mums ? Finding a group of friends in your local area can make a huge difference to your well-being and how you feel about where you live

Plan some nice small things to look forward to over the next couple of months. I try and have something every month to look forward to. Just for you! What do you enjoy? Cinema trip? Facial? Lunch with friends? New books to read? Whatever you’re in to.

Set yourself something to work on by new year - improve on a hobby. Think of something small and achievable you’d like to accomplish and get going. Dust off your swimsuit, old recorder, trainers, collection of old creepy dolls ( 😂) and put some mental energy into a hobby for a bit now that the DC don’t need entertaining in the same way.

Get out and visit a new park, museum or local town every weekend from now until October half term. Make a list of possibilities and choose one with the DC every Monday to look forward to.

Plan some lovely Autumnal recipes to try with the family. Get the DC involved if you can.

If all else fails, carry on living your best summer life for the next week anyway - apparently we’re due some sun.

I’ve tried a bit with other mums in the school. They are really nice, and I like them, but I have no close friends which is ok, because I do have close friends in other places.

It’s just not “my” area and that’s not going to change. I’m essentially waiting it out until the kids have left home; then we’ll move. It’s a weird one as I love the kids being young, love other kids coming over, all the sweet stuff that comes with childhood. Just can’t get into it where we are. We live in the deep London burbs, DH’s choice and he and the kids are v happy and I want the kids to go to secondary with their friends etc which is why we won’t move yet. It’s just me that’s not into it!

I love these ideas, thank you!!

Agree with the weekend visits, and the weather is getting better so makes it even more enjoyable.
