Just going into year 6.

Devours books.

Had just finished The Hunger Games series (has also done the HP series, several times). He's done most of Beast Quest and Sea Quest plus several shelves of non series books.

He's happy to re-read books but has outgrown a lot of our books (Last Kids on Earth / Diary Of a Wimpy Kid)

Any recommendations?

[We hit the library regularly too and I think he's read all he wants to from our local one]

Thanks @ThanksItHasPockets yes, I’d heard the original cut was a 15 which made me wonder about the books as there usually is much more in the books. Think I’ll leave them until he’s a little bit older.

I'd recommend Angie Sage's Septimus Heap series - there are 7 of them. If he's very advanced try him on the Bartimaeus series by Jonathan Stroud (but they might be heavy going for him). And lastly, look at some classic Diana Wynne Jones - Eight Days of Luke, the Ogre Downstairs, Power of Three, Wilkins' Tooth and the entire Chrestomanci series would be good for him.

Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver. They really seem to resinate and draw in even reluctant readers.

Your local library will probably update books regularly - we get a new box or two of books (all sorts, kids & adults) most weeks & also titles that other libraries no longer want.

Also, in our libraries, you can go onto the website/app & order in up to 20 books, so worth seeing if you can do the same & browsing your library's catalogue.

Another recommendation I give to parents of DC like yours- top end primary age, voracious readers- is to check the local secondary school's reading lists/recommendations for Year 7. He is not far off that now & it may give some fresh ideas.

Cirque du freak series also went down well!

The Wolf Brother series and the Chrestomanci series were popular with my dc.

Wow, even more suggestions. Think I can keep him books until next summer at least.

Good idea to look at the Year 7 reading (I assume you mean books recommended for general reading and not any set texts - if they even have set texts in year 7?). I will also check out the library resources online. Excellent idea!
