How much do your 16-18 year olds make

If you have a kid aged 16-18, and they work, how much do they make?
Slightly inspired by another thread but my DD is 18 now, she was working as a waitress in a local restaurant, 12 hours a week (3, 4 hour shifts) from 16, making £7.50 an hour. Now she is 18, it's upped to £10.50 an hour which is what they pay all staff 18 and over.

So yeah just that really, how much does your teen make and what do they do?

My 16 year old will be starting his apprenticeship in 2 weeks. £15,771 a year. He will come home with about £100 a month less than me!

ShanghaiDiva · 01/09/2023 20:24

Dd is 17 and works part time as a lifeguard £12 per hour.

NailyDale · 01/09/2023 20:26

17yo working 2 X 2hr shifts. She's paid $24 an hour (which is about £12 an hour), and she holds a qualification to do the job. She takes on extra shifts to top up her bank account in the school holidays.

My 17 year has just got a job at Waitrose, think it’s £10.something an hour.

DoggoMcDogface · 01/09/2023 20:41

My 18 year old works part time in a supermarket (£11 ish an hour) earning about £750 a month. He also does some GCSE tutoring for £20 an hour and makes about £200 a month from that.

OnlyTheBravest · 01/09/2023 21:01

Waitrose 14 hours a week. Take home £620ish a month. This was a couple of years ago but they do pay good rates to young workers.

a local farm shop pays £5.50 an hour at 16/17. I can’t believe they get anyone to work for that. We have all the main supermarkets near us as and they all seem to pay over £10 an hour.

@Hellocatshome great news to hear your DS got the apprenticeship.

Gobimanchurian · 01/09/2023 22:21

16yo gets £5.28 an hour plus tips waitressing.

Other 16yo gets £10 an hour food service at hospitality venue, no tips.

18yo works in a nursery for 0-4 yo's around her university studies. £7.49 an hour. (Yes it's a disgrace but she loves the kids/job and nurseries are in dire straights). I've told her she needs a rise or should bail for a bar job/Tesco.

Titsywoo · 01/09/2023 22:22

DD18 works at McDonalds and gets £10.62 an hour.

DS16 is about to start an apprenticeship - not sure yet how much although they said they will pay him more than the minimum wage.

jmh740 · 01/09/2023 22:27

Dd gets £6 an hour to work hospitality at a big name football club, she does about 4 hours a week I think she should look for something else but she seems happy

Littlefish · 01/09/2023 22:31

Dd (18) works in a pub as a waitress. She gets £8 per hour.

londonmummy1966 · 01/09/2023 22:35

Slightly older now but 19 yo earns £13 - 15 for baby sitting £18 for music practice supervision and £30 for 11/13+ tutoring. Until recnelty had some NHS work on a reception desk and as an HCA (did the course to qualify) at £15.

Her older sister gets £15 to babysit, £20-25 for music practice supervison, £40+for piano lessons and £60-90 per service for playing for church services. If she could play the organ properly it would be about £500pcm.

Main lesson - learn the organ.....

My 18 year old works in a residential home for people with PMLD doing 22 hours a week or so. He earns about £1000 a month. He absolutely loves it and I am so bloody proud of his dedication.

Well done him. You should be proud.

My 17 yo is a musician and earns £100+ an hour, can be as much as £3/400 an hour. Sounds great now but once he's out of college and needs it to be full time it'll be tough as often inconsistent hours plus obviously a lot of work in between actually working. He is working between 2 and 12 hours a week roughly at the moment.

DS2 is 15 and earns £5.5 an hour in a cafe.

PerilTheBeryl · 02/09/2023 02:01

Eldest started self employment in year 11 and continued through a levels, the amount varied but around 400 on a quiet week and 1000-3000 on a busy one. Hours ranged between 8 and 20 ish.

Next child worked minimum wage in a shop. (He now works with his brother) youngest helps out for (quite generous) pocket money.
