I've seen the film, but is the book as good? Does it have the love interest?

It terrified me.

Read it in my teens and loved it. Reread it this year and enjoyed the first half but then I just got bored and scan read it.

Yes it’s really good. My God did Stoker have some issues with women and sex though.

I live very near where Stoker grew up, I knew his descendants who still lived in his childhood home.
He definitely based some of his stuff on the local area history & myths. His mother also used tell him stories of irish mythology that have vampire like creatures. It’s a great book of its time.

I've read it twice and i love it ,much better than any film ,really quite scary in some parts.

First section is excellent. Flags a bit in the middle.

One of my favourites!

RamblingRosieLee · 05/09/2023 21:03

@VaddaABeetch really!

It's odd I always thought it was an actual myth /legend from transilvyania.

I think it's worth buying then.

I read it. The description of Dracula is very different to how vampires are portrayed these days. Definition not sexy or aspirational.
