What would your ideal holiday let look like?

Hullo!

I am considering opening a small luxe let as a side income.

I think sleeps 2, adults only, no pets.

Very small kitchenette, all luxurious fittings but minimalistic. Also hard wood floors for ease of cleaning.

Thinking of a projector TV that could be moved outside to watch.

Nice coffee machine with decent coffee provided - enough for 3/4 cups per person per day.

Homemade goodies on arrival.

Definitely no hot tub.

But maybe a luxurious outside bath undercover.

Any further requirements.

Thank you in advance.

If its self catering then have some cooking stuff like salt, Peper, oil and those basics for people, washing up stuff.
So they just buy milk and food.

Definitely decent size mugs. oLoo roll.

Lamps and soft lighting. Good guide of local pubs etc.

If it’s luxe I would expect air-con and fully controllable heating, everything spotlessly clean and new, simple to operate. Good location too, close to places to eat out, nice part of town for walks in the evening etc but not noisy. Hence air-con as it may not be possible to have the windows open. I’m not bothered about fancy TVs, we used to use the TV a lot when the DCs were young and in bed but we wouldn’t stay in watching TV much if it was just the two of us, we can do that at home.

Bedding and towels washed in fragrance-free, environmentally friendly detergent. No fabric conditioner or perfumed stuff or I’m going to spend the whole weekend itching.

If you have a folder full of info about local restaurants and places to go etc, check through it at least twice a year to make sure it’s up to date. I’ve seen too many leaflets for pizza delivery places that had closed down, and it’s especially important now that unfortunately so many restaurants are struggling. I’m always happy to support local independent businesses as long as they’re actually open!

For those of us who don’t drive, please advertise some accurate information about how to get there by public transport (very normal for Londoners). If you’re in a village with only two buses per day, don’t just tell us to rely on local bus routes. You need to look carefully at the timetable, does it coincide with the train timetable, or if we need to get a taxi from the station are there taxis there? It’s also useful to tell us where exactly the bus stop is, or even post a photo, as I’ve found a lot of rural bus stops tend to get hidden by vegetation and can be hard to find.

I find mid-range holiday cottages often miss the basics (so it is impossible to get clothes dry for example) so if you are going high-end I would definitely want:

Good wifi
A tv with easy to understand controls and eg netflix, prime etc so you can log in with your home subs
Decent airer, ideally heated
Drying space and space for eg muddy boots if countryside
Comfy seating, indoors and out
A few lovely coffee mugs
Really nice bedding and pillows
Decent towels
Places to hang dry clothes in bathroom, a good shower screen and decent toiletries (and tell people in advance they are there)
Good hot water supply and agree with pp about no quirky settings
Basics in the kitchen - milk, bread, tea, coffee, oil, pepper, salt, few apples, biscuits - Tell people in advance what will be there and make sure it is
Proper cleaning supplies stored in an obvious place in case of spillages or accidents
Thick doors, good insulation, decent curtains
Enough loo and kitchen paper for the whole visit
A keysafe that works properly and is large enough to hold the keys and fob easily
Good indoor/outdoor access so you can easily take coffee outside etc

We often travel by train and it is incredibly annoying to lug stuff and then find the cottage has peppermint teabags or whatever.

Not sure about:

Outside TV set up - can't imagine doing this as a couple, seems to me more like big group thing?
Outside undercover bath - again can't imagine using this unless I was staying in a treehouse or something like that. I would much prefer a lovely normal bathroom with proper storage and hanging.

Coffee machine - everyone has different preferences. I don't like the pod things, I want a good cafetière (think this should be included anyway and again tell people it is there)

I agree about the minimalist set up.

Anything fancy - eg a bath with jets - needs to work really well. So often they don't and then you are disappointed. Make sure all appliances are good quality and easy to use. No one wants to spend their holidays reading instruction booklets.
