How many days did you have Covid for before testing negative?

Just that. I've had it since Saturday, so I'm on day 7. I really, really, really need to be negative by Monday. (It's my first time - I've managed avoid it up until now.)

Day 10 first time and day 7 second time I think but so long ago.

Probably had it again in the past few weeks as we've all been a bit ill but we've been so busy with our summer plans haven't had a chance to stop this time around.

@Braindeads I hope you recover soon. I really resonated with the lucid, demented nightmares. Last night I woke up screaming 'help me' at the top of my voice. Glad no well meaning neighbour broke the door down! Had similar symptoms, hot, cold, wired, tearful and endless cough. Sadly no loss of appetite! Be glad when it's over.

I’m currently on day 5, I’ll retest to return to work on Sunday night.
Second time for me and by god I’ve been Ill.
it came on In 6 hours, I started feeling sick, hot, sweaty. My head filled up with wool / fog, the eye pain and light aversion was dreadful. My skin felt itchy and sunburned, every rib ached plus my hips.
I had huge adrenaline / rushes to the head, palpitations, a kind of reverse fever where I’d be freezing to the touch, teeth chattering but when I took paracetamol or ibuprofen I’d then burn up.
I could t concentrate, felt too wired to sleep but if you did drop off it was full of nightmares. I dreamed a huge bird was on my head with its talons In my temples (probably the headache).

I felt absolutely dreadful, like an awake paralysis, stomach pain, nausea where I’d be dribbling as my mouth was watering.

whatever variant this is we need to be careful of it. Absolutely appalling.

That sounds horrendous. Poor you

But no loss of appetite like the previous poster said, if anything I was hungrier! 😩

Thanks, all.

It can still be a nasty illness. My DP has had it for about ten days, and he's really suffering. I don't think it's being taken seriously enough.

care to divulge what approximate age he is and whether he’s been “vaccinated”?

Time40 · 02/09/2023 01:16

@TLDRfuckers Well, we're not exactly spring chickens, and we've had about three vaccinations each.

18 days. I had antivirals though so tested negative day 5, rebounded and then positive for another 13 days

echt · 02/09/2023 02:18

Four, but I had the anti-virals. Annoyingly, three days later I got COVID rebound, a known effect for some on anti-virals. That lasted four days too.

I must say the anti-virals were excellent, knocking the essential feeling like shit of COVID on the head in twelve hours.

Southoftheriver32 · 02/09/2023 02:24

Good grief are people still testing to see if they have a cold?!! 🤦‍♀️

Moonberri · 02/09/2023 02:51

If you haven't figured out over the lat 3 years that covid isn't "just a cold" there's no help for you really.

I had it recently and was in bed with a high fever for 6 days. Headache from hell, throat like glass, coughing til I threw up, diarrhoea. The works. I isolated because I didn't want to pass it onto anyone else, including my family and disabled DC. I tested strongly positive until Day 13.

I have a friend whose previously perfectly well child now has heart issues, another had multiple organ failure, and another got long covid and is still in a wheelchair 2 years later.

It's selfish not to test and isolate. The NHS still recommends to isolate for 10 days before seeing anyone vulnerable. You don't need to wait for the government to make something a law before doing the right thing.

OldTinHat · 02/09/2023 04:06

Glad you've asked this OP.

I've tested positive, never had covid before. Why have I tested? Because I'm due to stay with my elderly parents later this week, one is on chemo, one is CEV. I'm not risking their health any further by a cavalier attitude that covid doesn't matter anymore.

I'm hoping it will clear up before my travel is booked but certainly won't go until I test negative. I'm also CEV with a lung condition hence sitting up all night coughing.

I'm hoping it will be gone soon but interested to know so I can rearrange travel plans.

inloveandmarried · 02/09/2023 15:16

Weak on day 9.

Tested negative on day 10.

Nightmanagerfan · 06/09/2023 09:56

I've got what must be this new strain. Like PP it came on very quickly on Sunday night with a sore throat, and by Monday I had a temp of 39.4c, sore stomach, cough, bad cold etc. it's now Wednesday and I feel dreadful, I can get up and lie on the sofa but not do much else.

I only tested out of curiosity. The advice is to try to isolate for five days, so I'm going to do that.

Iliketulips · 06/09/2023 10:09

Only had it once, I was still positive on day 13 but gave up testing as had to go back to work.

Dwappy · 06/09/2023 10:21

Why does everyone say if they feel really ill it must be a new strain? People have been saying it for about 2 years now. But just because you either didn't feel that rough last time or you've never had it before and you feel rough now does not necessarily mean it's the new strain. People have been feeling like death with all the strains for the past 3.5 years. Even when the supposedly "milder" strains were around and the news was saying they're milder you had endless threads on here saying "it's definitely not a mild strain!! I've just had it and felt the worst ever!! It was much worse than delta" etc etc. Every time you catch an illness there's a possibility it will make your feel awful. Some children have chicken pox and have no symptoms and a few spots only. Others are hospitalised with horrendous symptoms. Some people get flu and manage at home fine. Others are hospitalised. Some people get covid and feel fine with no symptoms. Others feel like death. It could still be the same variant in both cases. There is no way to know for definite. But just because you feel really bad/worse than last time does not necessarily mean it's a new strain you definitely have.
