Would you go to your school reunion? What kind of school experience did you have?

I think I'd quite like to go to mine but hesitating a little. I was generally lucky as always had a good few friends and a lot of laughs, so remember a lot of my school experience with fondness.

At the same time though I was definitely considered a weirdo Grin Diagnosed now as an adult as neurodiverse.

Lots of girls (single sex school) basically didn't speak to me or acknowledge me back at school, sometimes in a pointed, slightly unpleasant way - it's hard to describe. The best example I can think of is 4 of us travelled to a sporting competition on the train a few hours away one time, and the others arranged to go separately and didn't talk to me for the whole day (our competitions were separate) and it's not like there had been a falling out or anything, it's simply the way it was and that's fine but as an adult it makes me feel a bit sad. My mum gave one of them a lift home from the train station after as she lived near us, and she still never spoke to me until years later!

I wonder if I went to the reunion, if that bunch would just all do that again and it would be awkward?

Would you go to yours or have you been? How were your school days?

Never had one. Most of my ex classmates are in prison so we'd have had to do it in Belmarsh.

So are a fair few of mine…

No, I hated school. The idea of a reunion makes me want to fake my own death.

School was fine, but I wouldn't go. The ones I wanted to keep in contact with, I have. I've specifically not kept in contact with the rest and I've no desire to waste an evening on small talk with them.

I'd go back in a heartbeat. While school wasn't an unalloyed pleasure, it was overall pretty good and I liked my classmates. There's website I signed up on having missed one reunion, but nothing lately.

I didn’t. I had a fine time at school, but I keep in touch with people I want to already; I don’t want anything more

God no! My cohort went through a phase of everyone friending everyone on FB and after a while I realised I didn't like most of them back then and they had not improved.

I went to a very rough school with a lot of bullying. It was three years of hell. There has been reunions generally the handful of high achievers (not me) I haven't gone as I don't care what anyone has been doing. The only people I stayed in touch with from school were y actual friends.

Kinsters · 01/09/2023 02:19

I wouldn't go. School was fine. I was quiet and studious but had a good group of friends. I'm still in touch with those friends, don't feel the need to reconnect with anyone else tbh.

Damnloginpopup · 01/09/2023 06:27

Thirty years on myself and a friend I had reconnected with organised one after someone else had mentioned me in a Facebook thread that included a few photos

Great it was. Everyone was in good spirits and all remaining enmities were replaced with genuine good feelings. Star of the show, who was a really joyful and engaging, warm and funny guy had been an absolute arsehole at school - he lifted everyone's evening into something really special!

Glad I didn't go to school with you miserable fuckers 😁 let it go...we all had bad times, they don't need to follow us forever.

WhatNoRaisins · 01/09/2023 06:30

You couldn't pay me enough to go to one. When I lived near where I went to school I was really socially isolated because I didn't want to mix with people I'd gone to school with. Terrible time.
