When your dentist checks your jaw bone ...

When your dentist checks your jaw bone at your yearly check up how does it make you feel?

I've been going to one that my friend recommended for about three years now and he's lovely, no problems at all, it's just that when he checks along my jaw bone I get the feeling that he wants me to feel uncomfortable. Not that he's enjoying it or anything, specifically that he wants me to feel uncomfortable.

I plucked up the courage to mention it to my friend today after another visit and she said she feels the same. I didn't say what exactly the problem was, just asked her how she found that part of the examination and she came to the same conclusion of her own volition.

Neither of us can fault him in any way, apart from this weird feeling with the jaw bone thing. I'm glad it's not just me. It's such an odd thing, not something you could actually complain about as it's just a feeling we both have.

So MNers, when your dentist checks your jaw bone does it just feel like another run of the mill thing for you or have you ever had a similar thing?

So should those of us who have never had it done be asking our dentists to do this check? Or would that seem rude/cheeky and we should just find a new dentist? I have an NHS dentist, would a private in be more likely to do it?

Can you switch to a female dentist?

I would have to travel a long way to do so. It's a shame because this one is very handy for me.

That's interesting that those who are dentists have said they do that exam before the internal bits. That's telling.

I have no issue with any of the other parts of the examinations, the moving the jaw from side to side, that's all fine, it's just that bit feeling under the jaw bone I get this feeling that he wants me to feel uncomfortable. My friend is exactly the same. We don't actually feel uncomfortable with it, it's that we think he wants us to.

I suppose it's like a very small red flag early on in a relationship, everything's going so well but this one little thing makes you wonder, but you shrug it off because everything else is fine.
