60th Wedding Anniversary Gift

Leeds2 · 31/08/2023 18:52

My ex in laws are about to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, and I would like to send a gift. Any ideas, please!
No alcohol, experience type gifts and nothing from Marks & Spencer.
My "go to" is a home delivered afternoon tea, but I have done that before for one of their significant birthdays and would like to get something different this time.
TIA.

Have you applied for their Telegram or is it automatic op?

A potted plant arrangement? Either a ready planted one if they have a garden or balcony, or an indoor one.
A framed photo of them or the family?
I know it’s M&S but this sot of thing

You need to apply - but that would be a good thing to do if it isn’t already in hand

BasiliskStare · 31/08/2023 19:14

The 60th Wedding card ( and it is a card ) you have to apply for but I did one for my parents and they are very nicely done.

Vickythevan63 · 31/08/2023 19:16

My SIL recently applied for the card for my in-laws, she needed their marriage certificate, so it’s not easy for just anyone to do.

You can suggest it to your ex or any siblings he has, to do though!

Trenchfootinthescottishhighlandstoday · 31/08/2023 19:21

Apologise it's a card! Wonder how many Charles has done already??

BasiliskStare · 31/08/2023 19:25

If you google it it will tell you what you need to send ( for the card )

Leeds2 · 31/08/2023 20:38

As it is my ex in laws, I don't really feel comfortable applying for a card/message from the Palace. Doesn't seem my place! Similarly with family photo type things, it doesn't seem right as I am no longer family, iyswim.

I'd definitely go with the afternoon tea but would also add something else, like maybe a photo book of their pictures throughout the years of their marriage? If there are old black and white photos, you can colorize them through something like Photoglory and then reprint, we did it for our parents' wedding anniversary and they loved the colorful versions of their wedding photos
Or you can make a wedding anniversary video for them, here are some ideas for that, too.
Are subscription type gifts an option? Could be magazine subscriptions or food delivery like chocolate boxes, something like https://www.allsubscriptionboxes.co.uk/category/box/food/chocolate-box/

AnneButNotHathaway · 01/09/2023 06:51

Oh, just saw you don't want to go with the photo type things, sorry! Anyway, think of subscriptions, there are so many of them, books, magazines, snacks etc.

TeenDivided · 01/09/2023 06:54

We got my parents a glass cut paperweight, engraved with 60 their names and the date. Available online. Maybe too personal for ex pils?

Highlyflavouredgravy · 01/09/2023 06:56

A 60th anniversary rose

Fizbosshoes · 01/09/2023 06:58

A diamond anniversary rose? (If they have a garden)

ApolloandDaphne · 01/09/2023 07:01

I was coming to say a plant too. If they don't have a garden then an indoors plant might be nice? They last longer than a bouquet of flowers.

CrapBucket · 01/09/2023 07:12

For ex in laws I would send flowers. They won’t necessarily want something they can keep, they have their own family for that iyswim. (Assuming you and their child split up rather than bereavement)

Leeds2 · 01/09/2023 10:36

Thanks for everyone's ideas. Ex mil doesn't like cut flowers, so I think I will go for something to plant in the garden.

A lovely rose bush from David Austen roses is always a great gift for people who have gardens.

ilovemydogmore · 01/09/2023 10:39

There's even a 'golden wedding' variety if you want to lean into the theme

ilovemydogmore · 01/09/2023 10:40

Sorry I just read its their 60th! Ignore last message
