What to do with wardrobe storage

I am fed up with our wardrobes. We have built in wardrobes in our bedroom which is an attic conversion (which old owners put in). Inside the wardrobe is weird and is no good for storing clothes properly. It's made up of a kallax type unit which has no back on it, with a hanging rail to the side which is then boxed in with another kallax unit. Since we moved in, I've been folding clothes up and popping them in the kallax but it's chaos and I cannot find anything easily, stuff falls out of the back etc.

Does anyone have any bright ideas on how I can make it a little more bearable to store clothes in?

At some point in the future we'll be having the wardrobes properly redone, but it's a way away so I need some inspiration on how to be a bit more organised in the interim.

are you able to take out the kallax type unit? If so, would a hanging rail and a skinny thin tall boy behind the doors?

One more idea, maybe take out the cupboards, add a hanging rail and drawer storage and hide it behind curtains? There are a few images on Pinterest.

I think I probably could take the kallax out, but the rail is drilled into it, and into to the other kallax (which then has a further rail, and kallax attached - it's a double wardrobe) so it would mean dismantling the entire thing which I was trying to avoid.

However, the idea of having a tall boy drawer chest and that separate rail is really tempting.

Husband is away this weekend, I might just go hell for leather and start tearing stuff down as it is doing my head in!
