Topless Sunbathing

I'm currently on holiday in Ibiza.

We are in a large, busy, hotel complex (which I don't like, but that's another story) with many guests from various countries.

I've been here ten days so far and not seen one woman topless.

I've never gone topless but am surprised by this.

Any ideas why things have changed?

There was a lengthy thread on this very recently. The concensus seemed to be that it's acceptable to be topless at the beach but not at the hotel. I think it's the fact that hotels tend to be rammed with kids and sun lounger positioning doesn't allow for any privacy/ chance to avert your gaze in such close proximity.

Thanks.

I must have missed that thread.

I'm just surprised as previously, in hotels, there has been quite a bit but absolutely none this time!

Ah - I've only seen topless at the beach, not the hotel (thinking back to Mallorca in June).

If Ibiza is the same as when I used to visit the south of France every year until about six years ago, the arrival of phone cameras led to topless sunbathing reducing greatly. Secondly I think is the change in bikini styles especially bottoms so tan lines are smaller.

In Portugal currently and at a very family orientated hotel and there’s only 1 woman who is always topless. Fair play and all that if that’s ok for her but couldn’t imagine being that brave, especially the only one amongst hundreds!

I was in Ibiza last week and there were 2 women sunbathing topless round the pool. It seemed unusual because I haven't seen anyone do it for a few years.

ArcticLadybird · 30/08/2023 18:14

It seems a bit tacky and passé these days, maybe others around you share that view?

BackToOklahoma · 30/08/2023 18:15

Pervs taking photos/video on their phones I should think.

GigiAnnna · 30/08/2023 18:19

I've only shown them for modelling, I wouldn't get them out for free. I also don't like the idea of being half naked around other people's kids. Yes they are just a body part, but other parents have different views on things and I don't want to risk offence/making someone feel uncomfortable. I also have big boobs that draw attention clothed, I'd hate to walk round in public with them out.

cocksstrideintheevening · 30/08/2023 18:26

We're just back from Ibiza, encountered a couple of nudist beaches much to the kids' hilarity and pretty much every second woman on the beaches were topless, and lots of little kids naked.

None of they by the pool though and we were in a 90% Spanish hotel.

I used to go topless, tan lines were a real concern was I was younger. Now I couldn't give a shit and don't want sunburnt nips.

cocksstrideintheevening · 30/08/2023 18:26

Oh and I took a beautiful photo of my kids in the sea only to realise I had to photoshop a photobombers baps out of it

YouDontNeedThis · 30/08/2023 21:35

Yes, maybe it's the fact that everyone has cameras on their phones and people don't want to risk pictures of themselves topless on social media!

I think it’s normal behaviour to be topless in places like Spain, Cyprus, Italy etc.

No one bats an eyelid.

Why would you want tan lines and a wet cold top across your breasts it’s much comfier not wearing one.

I do it all the time on holiday and never have any issues. I don’t even pack a top. It’s not attention seeking it’s just wanting an even tan and being comfortable.

People care far too much about what people think - don’t like it, move away. Live and let live.

I think people have a better awareness of sun safety now. They’re more likely to fake tan before their holiday, then wear factor 50 round the pool. So tan lines aren’t as much of an issue.

Did you really have to drag this post up from last year?

MaryMack · 04/07/2024 15:32

The fashion for having a deep, dark tan all over is not fashionable anymore. People are more aware of sun damage. In the 80's, everyone seemed to be topless but not anymore. Teeny tiny bikinis mind you, and no-one seems bothered about tan lines.

ETA Missed the seedy post by @highlysexed about his wife's lovely large breasts. So tempted to ask if she's inflatable, but I won't because that would be cruel.

Themodeltho · 04/07/2024 15:34

I think it's also the thought of ppl taking pics of them and putting them on socials. It was the same in Greece - noone topless. Although last year I did end up in beaches where there was a lot about. Personally, not a fan but I do see the arguments for it. I just don't like seeing people's bodies much.
