Is a 2.52 x 2.33 a suitable sized bedroom for an 8 year old?

My partner and I are looking to buy a 3 bed property but are struggling to find somewhere in our budget and location which has a decent sized 3rd bedroom.

We need the bedroom for our niece who stays over regularly and sometimes for extended periods of time.

We've seen a property which we love but the third bedroom is 2.52 x 2.33m. Would it be possible to turn this space into a lovely bedroom without feeling too cramped? I'm absolutely useless at decorating so would be great to hear about what others have done with a similar size?

DN desk and computer would be in the dining room and there is also the possibility we could extend but obviously that is a long term solution!

All ideas and suggestions very welcome!

It’s a fairly large single bedroom. A raised / cabin bed would provide extra storage and seating space, but it‘s a perfectly adequate room size at pretty much any age - especially since it’s not a permanent bedroom and she’ll (presumably) bring the majority of her clothes and belongings with her and take them away again as opposed to keeping them at your house.

It will be fine.
The bed has the opportunity to go in either direction - window and door dependant - and there should then be space for storage. But if clothes weren't staying long term, I'd go for a slightly raised bed with drawers or shelves underneath for a little more space.

Yes, it’s perfect for a child’s room!

It's fine. Many houses have much, much smaller 3rd bedrooms and some even have bunk beds in the!

That's bigger than dd1 and ds' bedroom and they've been in their room from 8yo-22yo, and 1yo-16yo respectively.
They both have a high bed with a desk underneath.

Yes that's absolutely fine.

We had a tiny bedroom for dd when she was in primary school. She had a bed with drawers underneath and we took the wardrobe out and replaced it with a chest of drawers and that made it feel bigger. Anything that needed to be hung up just went in out wardrobe.

She kept her toys in the living room, not all of them but I think as long as they have other places in the house to keep things it's fine.

Paint it a light colour, that will help.

My 8 year old DD has a box room, she has this bed. Includes drawers and wardrobe, and loads of storage space underneath. She loves it.

It is small but if you get a high sleeper to make best use of the space, it’ll be fine. Google ideas for small children’s bedrooms. With a nice colour on the walls, some nice bedding and her things in there, you’ll be able to make it lovely for your niece.

Thank you everyone! I think I was looking at it as though I was going to be sleeping in there instead of an 8 year old.

Lots of brilliant ideas about how to use the space to explore. We may well be putting an offer in!
