Paris on a budget with Dc

Possible? Took DC to London last week. They loved it and want to go to Paris next.

I'm a single parent abd don't have loads/much spare money, but would love to take them for a short break.

Please can someone re ommemd the best way to get there, somewhere cheap to stay? Ideas of what to do there.

Thank you.

What time of year where you thinking of going? There's a great Huttopia site in Versaille which has really good value accommodation over the summer months (wooden cabins or tents) and is 5 mintues walk from the train station which makes Paris very accessible.

Not sure on time of year tbhbut that sort of thing sounds perfect.

Thanks for the Huttopia idea, as I am also looking for somewhere suitable for a family holiday in Paris next summer. Unfortunately Huttopis seems to be closed in August 🙄

I just found that out @MamaNell .

Paris Olympics next year, avoid at all costs! Friends are renting out their apartment for 400€ a night.

Oof maybe a winter trip then!

Try Novotel 14 Porte d’Orleans. We got 4 nights there for less than £500 which is a bargain for Paris. It was less than 5 mins walk from the nearest metro station, and from there it took 15-20 mins into the centre.

Just taken my kids there as a single parent. We had a great time though we were only there two nights (stopped on our way elsewhere). End of august French schools go back so it is quieter and cheaper this week! We did an air bnb and it was £250 for two nights for four people. We could have done it cheaper but it was really conveniently located 2 minutes walk from a line 1 metro station and a nice area. Across the road (literally) from a great Lidl! We went in the morning and got pastries for breakfast and pizza/ picnic bits for lunch. Really easy and kept costs down. Didn’t climb the Eiffel Tower, went to arc de triomphe instead which is €13 and kids free. Then to trocadero after to look at it and enjoy the vibe!! Did a free walking tour of montmartre (tipped the guide though), sacre coure (free) and the Louvre (kids free at the Louvre). Bought crepes, hot chocolate at Angelina’s and a dinner out. Otherwise it was relatively good value!

I was there this August and they were open! I wonder if they're not taking booking for next August yet, for some reason - possibily the Olympics?

As a base for a family trip to Paris I'd really recommend the Versaille Huttopia (just not when the Olympics are taking place!).

Paris is very expensive, we found it no fun on a budget in winter

MerylSqueak · 30/08/2023 13:59

I was looking into taking dd to Monet's garden at Giverney and when you look it up online it seems as if you need to pay for z very expensive coach and tour.

My friend who has been there often assures me it is in fact a short trip on the train from Gare du Nord and pay when you get there.

That's my twopennorth!

If you are prepared to stay outside the centre and travel in, then you could try the Residhome Val D'Europe

It's pretty cheap (or at least it was when we last went a few years ago!!) and you can get rooms with a little kitchenette, a separate bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge area.

It is literally on top of a train station (but you don't get any train noise) that will take you either into the centre of Paris pretty quickly, or one stop the other way to EuroDisney. The val d'europe shopping centre is a short walk away, and there are some restaurants there if you wanted to eat locally in the evening instead of travelling back after eating centrally.

I was just coming to suggest Val d'Europe as well. We stayed this summer at a campsite nearby (Camping Jablines). Train tickets in are really cheap. We also found a LIDL in the centre of Paris for picnic meals (this mainly because my daughter is autistic and very fussy), there are many cheap places to eat in Paris.

I much prefer autumn to summer in Paris, much better for walking, and the trees are gorgeous.
