Home security systems

Has anyone had any home security installed and if so what have you gone for?

I haven't a clue where to begin and things like that can be costly if you call in experts. Can anyone recommend anything re home / door cameras, alarms, lighting etc?

Thanks :-)

Go for a big brand like ring. On Amazon search for home security system and get one that includes all that but expect to pay several hundred pounds

purpleme12 · 29/08/2023 01:15

I would ring a local company to discuss. That's what I did

shitt · 29/08/2023 01:16

Do you have home insurance and can you contact them for advice? I remember I had to inform them of what security measures are already in place, and I think they might expect things are in place if you have high value items

we have one, offered by the phone company. door bell with camera and two other outdoor camera's. door and two motion sensors in the home.
dh likes the service, me on the other hand, considering we live somewhat rurally thinks it's useless, as no one even in the wrong mind would be venturing uphill (steep and long) into a neighborhood with no joke camera's out every window.
we had a new countertop installed and two neighbors messaged us about a mysterious white van.
for x amount of money per month IF things were tight it would be the first thing i would drop.
currently we use it to watch deer eat the juniper berries and cedar branches.

billyt · 29/08/2023 09:31

For starters, do NOT even think about using companies like Veresecure.

Try locally unless you want to go down the DIY route.

What risk are you concerned about? Is local burglaries a thing. Or is it a 'just in case'?

mobile phone company?

I love that you can watch the deer and that that you feel it's unnecessary. I'm not sure yet, I'm new to the area, very nice area but thinking about it.

I think I just need something at least. Having just moved, so much to do as well.

That's the thing..

But a few hundred could be worth it. Half the battle is finding the time to organise someone to install stuff etc.

Thanks

Thanks, and that takes time too, I'm so short on time atm, but I'll do a bit of research.

Yes, our mobile, home cable tv, internet provider offers the service in conjunction with a large security company.
when it alarms they contact us first via cellphone and after that determine if police are to be called.

thanks, yes I'll contact them. Nothing of value here though, not to anyone else.

Thanks, I'll contact my mobile company tomorrow.

I just need someone to make it easy for me. Too many choices, I looked at ADT just now but I want a flood light as well as an alarm, I need someone to do the whole thing for me, but not too expensive, lol.

Why is that billyt?

It's more of a just in case thing. Just good practice really.

@TopazQuartz

I don't know a single colleague in the industry that has a good thing to say about companies like Veresecure, they're cheapening a highly regulated industry (I don't mean by value of what the sell but by how they try to sell it) And if they are claiming something they don't have before you buy what else are the not telling?

Veresecure, for one, claim to have NSI accreditation which is one requirement a lot of insurance companies demand. Their Monitoring Centre has NSI accreditation but their systems do not. Secondly, the person who 'surveys' is of course. salesmen but he's also the same person who'll install your system. Thirdly, the control panel is one they manufacturer themselves. it can be easily removed by anyone (they claim it's like it is to help the homeowner if they want to re-arrange areas of the house)

Your best bet is to speak to a few local NSI-registered companies. You'll get a better system with better support. just look around for external sounds and call the company up. If you want a comparison then call a national company, but you may get a better service locally.

I spent 18 years working for ADT and they only dealt with banks and high-end clients. They knew their market and were very well thought of. Until they decided to lower their 'target' to residential and small shops, then the quality of service and respect in the industry plummeted.

thanks for the useful info :-)

In current house we have a full system by ADT. It's been great but it's £35 a month.

We're moving soon and have bought a Ring system we're going to install ourselves, my ex has it and he really rates it.

TopazQuartz · 14/09/2023 23:47

Thanks Moodwill

A friend has said he will fit us with Ring this weekend, I don't know a lot about it.

Someone else suggested ADT, I might look into what systems they have on offer, I hadn't thought of a monthly payment, that would help atm

I have verisure and 100% can't fault their service.

We have the top package but I know it works and they are there every time I need them.

I suppose it depends on what you want to pay for this kind of stuff, what we pay isn't cheap, but that's irrelevant for what we need it for. I would NEVER use anyone else

TopazQuartz · 15/09/2023 00:25

Thanks, I have nothing against them, with me the problem is just that I don't know where to start and so little time to read about all this.

Hi there!
It's great to see you're considering enhancing your home security! Investing in a reliable security system is a smart move, and there are plenty of options available to suit different needs and budgets.
At Alert Pro, we specialize in providing tailored security solutions, including CCTV installation, burglar alarms, and smart home integrations. Here are a few recommendations to get you started:

  1. CCTV Cameras: Look for high-definition cameras with features like night vision, motion detection, and remote access via a mobile app. Brands like Ring, Arlo, and Eufy are popular choices, but we can help you find the best fit for your home.
  2. Burglar Alarms: A good alarm system can deter intruders and alert you to any unauthorized access. Systems like Ajax or Yale offer reliable options with easy installation and monitoring.
  3. Smart Lighting: Consider smart outdoor lights that can be programmed to turn on at certain times or activated by motion. This adds an extra layer of security and can make your home look occupied even when you're away.
  4. Professional Installation: While DIY options are available, having experts install your system can ensure everything is set up correctly and functioning optimally. At Alert Pro, we offer professional installation services tailored to your specific needs and budget.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your options further, feel free to reach out! We're here to help you secure your home effectively.
Best of luck with your security journey!
