What wedding gift did you get for your sibling?

My DB has just got married, unexpectedly.

So I'm looking for suggestions of what to get him and new SIL.

What did you get for yours? Or what did yours get for you?

Thanks.

My brother got me and my husband a beautiful large framed print of a city that’s meaningful to us. It hangs in our hallway and we love it.

UnicornGlitter · 29/08/2023 00:14

My sister got us a tumble dryer 😂

We had a conversation before the wedding about hers and how good it was and at the time we didn't have one. She fed our cats while we went away for a couple of days after the wedding and we came home to find she had bought us the same one, wrapped it up and displayed it in the living room! Not necessarily a meaningful gift but probably my most used one that's still going strong today!

A VHS player 🤣

my mother suggested they needed bedding, so a full set of king sized bedding (bottom sheet/top sheet/ two king pillow cases)
as well as a lovely table cloth and matching napkins (which they use frequently so that must have been a hit).

Tickets for a Broadway show.

Serendipity2023 · 29/08/2023 01:03

My brother got us John Lewis vouchers & Emma Bridgewater Mr&Mrs mugs

I got him and my SIL Next vouchers & tickets to see The Lion King as it was touring the UK, but DH and I went as well, which ended up being a lovely evening spent together.

Pitstop1986 · 29/08/2023 09:54

Me and DH went to a registry office, just bare minimum people (during COVID and I have a huge family so pretty much invited nobody rather than trying to come up with a reduced guest list and having everyone fall out with me/each other if they didn't get an invite)

None of my family got us a wedding present, although his sister sent us some hand made bed sheets.

I never thought anything of it until I read this post!

If I go to a wedding, I usually give the couple a gift voucher or cash, as I hate buying presents, I'm just not good at choosing gifts out, even when I know the people really well. I always think with cash or a voucher, they can treat themselves to whatever they would like!

Copperoliverbear · 29/08/2023 10:44

She wanted a Dyson fan 🤣🤣

Whereland · 29/08/2023 10:46

I'm Irish so we give cash. I gave my sister €250

My DB got married overseas so I created a photobook of the whole 10 day trip collecting photos from all the guests.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 29/08/2023 11:12

DSis1 we paid for her wedding cake.
DSis2 wasn’t going on honeymoon for a few months so we sent them on a nice spa weekend.
DBro1 asked if they could have a wedding cake too so that was easy!

I was a young bridesmaid when my 3 older sisters got married but I remember my Mum taking me and my younger sister to choose a little gift. I think we got a set of potato masher, ladle, fish flipper, slatted spoon, and large spoon that hang up for 1 sister, towel bale for another sister and egg poacher set and egg cups for other sister. When my younger sister got married I gave her £100 and that was 22 years ago. When I got married 2 of my older sisters put together and bought me a large gas BBQ. My other sister bought me a bench for my garden. My younger sister was still at school but gave me saucepans I think Mum probably took her to choose for me.

YorkshireIndie · 29/08/2023 11:45

I paid for their flowers and confetti. They are going to be moving counties so no point getting them anything but money

mnahmnah · 29/08/2023 12:01

Some fancy crystal wine glasses.

It probably should have been more, but they organised their wedding at a time and place knowing I couldn’t attend. Which felt hurtful, so I wasn’t feeling particularly generous!

Vexxa · 29/08/2023 12:38

A Le Creuset casserole dish.

TragicMuse · 29/08/2023 12:55

My sister gave me a Kenwood Chef. I LOVE it!

I gave her my labour and skill - made her a 5 tiered wedding cake and altered her dress. And made metres and metres of bunting. And did handmade party bags for the hen do.

WhatHaveIFound · 29/08/2023 13:03

I paid for the photographer at my sister's wedding. She bought us some wine glasses.

bakewellbride · 29/08/2023 13:30

BIL got married 5 years ago. We gave them £150 and some flowers. Living together with kids so didn't need or want an actual 'thing' as a gift.

TherealmrsT · 29/08/2023 13:40

Brother, dish engraved with a picture of where they were married and date us voucher for use on honeymoon.
When we got married SIL gave us a beautiful framed calligraphy of the reading she did at our wedding.

jay55 · 29/08/2023 14:54

First wedding money towards the honeymoon.
Second wedding I bought the dress and paid the bar tab at the reception.

Made4Sunshine · 29/08/2023 15:01

My brother gave us.....
Matching rifles
An unusual gift for a couple who lived in Central London at the time and weren't at all countryfied. We did use them to cans in the garden until a neighbour complained

ToughFuss · 29/08/2023 15:03

My two brothers paid for my hair and make up, my older sister got me a beautiful framed wedding photo (after the event of course!!) with pressed flower confetti from the day etc, my younger sisters bought me a gorgeous carry-on case to take on our honeymoon.
None of my siblings are married.

BaaCode · 29/08/2023 15:07

My siblings all married in the 80s, as did I.
My sister was collecting a dinner service at the time called Eternal Beau so I bought her the teapot with the sugar bowl and milk jug.
I can't remember what I bought the others, probably a toaster to go with the other 20. Hah.

Mew2 · 30/08/2023 11:04

So for my sister and brother I bought a small gift (I was at uni studying and had no money)
My sister bought us some fancy jugs
For my sister in law (dhs sis)- we gave some money
One of our favourite gifts though to give (and well recieved)- is a hamper with nice food, choc, champers, napkins, napkin rings, candles etc for a fancy date night. The other is an engraved plate with their names, date of wedding and where they got married on it....

Tillow4ever · 30/08/2023 11:25

Years ago now… we bought my husbands brother and his wife a Wii console. It wasn’t that random - they used to come to ours every other weekend and after the kids all went to bed, the 4 of us would play it together for hours having a right laugh! So we decided to get them their own console so they didn’t have to wait to join us to play.

My sister and her husband asked for money in lieu of gifts, if anyone wanted to give them anything. So we have cash and a little keepsake of the date.
