Couples rowing...

Do all couples row? It seems to be expected on here that couples have massive arguments and that it's healthy. I only ask because DP and I don't! Anyone else not row?

Ex DH and I rarely argued and got on fine until I found out he'd been cheating on me for three years 😁

Yeah, that would do it.

Aw, that's horrible WunWun. I hope you are in a happier place now.

We argue, but rarely anything major. Been together 22 years.

I find couples who say they never row have a different idea to me of what rowing means. Instead they call their rowing a diference of opinion, bickering, minor disagreements and similar terms.

Alargeoneplease89 · 27/08/2023 16:44

Nope, we don't row. It doesn't mean we don't have disagreements but we talk them through and if one of us feels tension then it's a walk it off and talk about it later situation.

I grew up in a household of screaming and shouting and do not want to inflict it on my kids- I think a calm atmosphere is best. I have immune system problems and think it was from a stressful environment.

IncompleteSenten · 27/08/2023 16:44

Do you mean shout and exchange insults, that sort of thing?
No. Never.
When we disagree we discuss it.

What's the saying?

If you want to be heard, first listen.

VeridicalVagabond · 27/08/2023 16:45

Now rows, we disagree but are both quite chill people and prefer to talk it out. When we do fall out and get angry one or both of us will say "I just need 30 mins" or whatever and we'll go cool off doing whatever we do (he works out, I crochet furiously) then come back together and talk about it calmly. I grew up with shouters and hated it so I was determined not to do that to my daughter.

Definitely none of the sort of disrespectful nonsense you read about on here, screaming at eachother and name calling and chucking things about. I think the worst name I've ever called my husband is a doughnut. I can't imagine just putting up with being called a bitch or a cunt every time a disagreement happened like you read about on here!

Raspbear · 27/08/2023 16:56

A stern word or a raised voice once in a blue moon, but it never escalates to a full blown row.

TallerThanAverage · 27/08/2023 17:03

Together 32 years, we very rarely argue. He does annoy me occasionally and I’ll stick two fingers up at him from the next room. My brother and his first wife used to have full on barneys regularly and regardless of who was there which was more than slightly awkward for us on more than one occasion. I used to have a boss whose husband wouldn’t talk to her for days which would have infuriated me, I wouldn’t even entertain the children sulking there’s no way I could tolerate it from a grown man.

What do you mean by row? DH and I certainly disagree with each other, do we scream, throw things, sulk and silent treatment like you read about on here? No. I would think it unusual for two people to never disagree on anything at all, I would assume there is someone more dominant who tends to get their way and the other person just let's them get on with it
