What’s Happening In Your House?

Apologies if there’s already one of these threads - lucysmam often does a weekend one but I can’t see anything.
How’s everyone’s Sundays shaping up so far? I took an amitriptyline last night to help me sleep but typically when I could have had a lie in I didn’t get one as I was woken by DD14 at around 7. Tried to go back to sleep but she was being so loud on the phone to her girlfriend. Seems to have lost all consideration for other people. I got up around 9, took DH a cuppa in bed then chilled for a bit before doing the dishwasher & bleaching the kitchen surfaces. Also put on a load of washing. We’re going away for a few days on Thursday so I’m trying to make sure we have all the clothes we need. Seeing a couple of West End shows for DH’s significant birthday. Can’t wait! DD will be staying with my DBro & then with her girlfriend so we get some teenage free days. It’s been very stressful as she was deregistered from school & is currently under the mental health crisis team 😢
I didn’t have breakfast so will do hash browns for brunch. Thought we had no bacon but happy to find some streaky left over from macaroni cheese the other day. DD made it & it was delicious. DH hopefully making a chocolate chilli for tea. No plans for this afternoon although if the rain holds off, we might go to a sunflower trail. I have loads to do in the house but try to pace myself as I really struggle with my lower back. Definitely want to clear the stairs as we tend to use them as a dumping ground plus clear some of the many carrier bags in our room. Also need to track down a sponge bag for our trip.

Coffee, back to bed. Still in bed watching heart stopper. Must get moving soon as for people coming round but can't really be bothered.

Is this the one where the bloke rips out peoples hearts? In a hospital somewhere?

6am dog walked then horse ridden and done. Cleaned bathroom and bedrooms.
DH did 2nd dog walk so dog is fast asleep on my feet.
Planning a quick nap and then DH and I are away for the night at a hotel for a 50th bday party. Psyching myself up to shave legs and paint toe nails while DH has decided to dig out all our old mobiles, chargers etc and box them up to be recycled ♻️.

Hope @lucysmam is ok.

I've turned into a complete hermit sloth this year. A combination of kids revising for exams, shit weather, the cost of everything, peri menopause ... I just cba doing anything. At the moment I love nothing more than trying different tea flavours, reading a new book, doing a jigsaw and putting clean pjs on after walking the dog.

This does actually make me happy. I'm not moping around, my time is filled and I enjoy my weekends - and the thought of going out makes me euugghh. Suggesting going anywhere with the kids gets a similar response. But I have this niggling doubt that I should be doing more. You know, all this "making memories" nonsense.

F1 on, just back from 12 days, 6 cities in Europe. We did oh, hundreds of thousands of steps everyday.

Can't even face a round of laundry. But I should really.

Lazy lazy lazy day. It's grey here anyway

I have been out for some fresh food. Planty of wine in. Don't need to move until tomorrow.

ChicagoBears · 27/08/2023 14:16

I’m feeling a little fragile after too much champagne with my girlfriends last night but I hauled ass and we went on a leisurely bike ride this morning. We stopped off for brunch at a lovely local deli.

We’re back home now, DC are playing in the playroom, OH has made a fresh pot of coffee, I’m browsing mumsnet and doing some online shopping.

The remainder of the day will be very chilled, I’ve lazily ordered in a Sunday roast (with cheeseboard and desserts) from our local which we’re all looking forward to and at some point we’ll all congregate to watch a film.

@daffodilandtulip snap! Love the hermit sloth routine

DaphneDeloresMoreheadRidesOn · 27/08/2023 14:41

I'm so jealous.
I was on nights last night and I'm in at 6 tonight so need to leave at 5. I got woken up by Dh at 8am coming in from his night shift, then again by some twat ringing at 12. At that point Dd came home abd I gave up trying to sleep.

just had a shower abd trying to work out what everyone is going to eat in my absence.

I'm hungover after celebrating venetian night last night but I dragged myself out to take DD to an art exhibition that I promised to take her to as there was a climbing wall there and today people could climb on it as part of the exhibition (someone was taking photos). DD climbed to the top with ease, I gave up half way up Grin (in my defence, I'm a bit scared of heights but mostly it was because it was hard) then we went to the shop to get her new indoor trainers for volleyball.

Now home and wondering what to do for dinner. Had planned on crayfish to celebrate the end of summer but they're still frozen solid so need to do something else.

lucysmam · 27/08/2023 15:25

@daffodilandtulip , I am thank you. I was out last night so been taking it very steady today & only just looking at MN now 🙂

I'm just considering a shower & then some sort of slow craft. Probably finish a little bit of hand sewing or the next row of my top. Should probably sort out the trail of destruction I left behind me while deciding what to wear & applying make up last night too 🙈 . This morning was like waking up after a night on the town 20 years ago there was that much stuff strewn about 🤣

Dd1's out with a friend, been instructed to be in for tea this time 🤔 Dd2 was reading in bed when I last went up so expect she's still got her nose thorougly buried in her book. Their dad's cooking gammon for tea...I'm bloody starving!

SuddenlyOld · 27/08/2023 15:28

Went to town with gkids to collect something. Took dog for his first proper walk in 2 weeks (he's been poorly). Collected some seeds from the garden. DH watching football on TV so I'm now reading in the garden. It's still sunny but autumn is coming so I want to speed as much time as I can out here while it's still warm and dry. I never do housework at the weekend. Weekends are for me to do what I want. Might get my paints out later

Nellieinthebarn · 27/08/2023 15:37

Having found a few clothes/carpet moths in the living room we are spending the day pulling all the furniture out, hoovering behind it all and applying moth killer. There is a small amount of damage to the carpet behind one of the sofas, luckily the big expensive pure new wool rug seems to have escaped. Its still had a thorough clean and moth killer applied. Apparently it has to be done every three months now. It's all rock and roll here!

Tiddlywinks63 · 27/08/2023 15:41

Took the dog out for a quiet walk around the fields first thing, it was really warm. Slow cooker pulled beef with mash, homegrown runner beans and sugar snaps for lunch, I made a plum and apple crumble and custard too.
Emptied dishwasher and refilled it.
Took the dry washing upstairs, I need to put it away, tidied around a bit.
Dog’s asleep on the settee, I will walk her agin when she awakes, DH is emptying the wood store so he can paint it, I’ve just made a cottage pie with the leftover beef and mash for tomorrow and probably Tuesday.
All’s quiet 🤫

hby9628 · 27/08/2023 15:47

@Letstrythisonefornow no it's a teen drama on Netflix. It's actually a really good watch.

OldTinHat · 27/08/2023 16:37

Catching up late in the day...

Took myself to the cinema to see Strays this morning. Made me laugh far more than it should have!

Was supposed to go out with a friend this afternoon but they're unwell so I've been busy making birthday cupcakes for tomorrow. My birthday (!) but thought I might take them to the pub when I meet up with friends in the evening. I'll be on my own rest of the day.

I don't suppose I'll hear from DC2 as they cut me and the family off almost 4yrs ago but I've spotted a card from DC1 in my post. Yay!

And oh! Just had a present delivery mid writing this from a friend who can't make tomorrow!

Happy rest of Sunday everyone - keep plodding on!!

mamaduckbone · 27/08/2023 17:21

Dh and I painted my mum's front door this morning then came home for lunch and a lazy bath.
This afternoon I've half watched the rugby and deleted about 6000 emails. Thrilling day all round!

I managed to motivate my bum off the sofa after my first post, to tidy up our small front garden a bit.

Pruned the lavender which always feels like declaring summer officially over, and started building a dead hedge against two walls for all the over wintering insects as it really does feel like autumn here today (our neighbours aren't gardening or nature lovers, so I'm hoping the dead hedge looks intentional enough to offset mistaking wildlife friendly for lazy). I even managed to get DH to come and help for a whole 10 minutes. Next weekend I'll swap out the bedding plants for autumn/winter ones and fill in the gaps in pots if the plant stall on the market is well stocked.

Now back on the sofa with candles lit in the log burner for added hibernation effect.

I need to think about making the tea soon. Which will be some version of leftover roast chicken and steamed veg. Not very exciting.

TribeD · 27/08/2023 18:11

I've not done a great deal...

DD is in the bath, DH is supervising as she's not great at washing her hair (she's 8). I'm cooking tea - pies, roast potatoes and veg.

Folded a few loads of laundry, I might pick up one of my crochet projects later, none of them are especially taxing, but my enthusiasm for all of them is waining.
