Going out with covid.

On Monday DD (18) tested positive with covid. Was quite ill until Thursday.
Today she feels and looks a lot better. It's now just a cold. This afternoon there is an event nearby she wants to attend will only be watching. I ordered some more tests which haven't arrived so we don't know if she is still positive.
Reading on Google that she doesn't have to isolate but she is not sure what to do.
I think she is ok to go.
What would you think if you knew someone was there that had been positive last week.

She can go, it’s fine. She’s not feeling poorly any more so there’s nothing to worry about.

Iamanisland · 27/08/2023 10:12

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest, I'd wonder why they tested though. If she's I'll she should stay in and if not, go out!

NHS advice is to isolate if you can for 5 days and while you have a temperature/ feel unable to do normal activities and to avoid vulnerable people for 10 days. Assuming the event isn’t at a care home or it’s a baby shower or similar then I think she is fine to go.

See if she’s still positive. If so reevaluate the situation. Could she wear a mask when she’ll be inside? Could she cough and sneeze into her arm rather than hands? She’s got through covid but others, who could get it from her if she’s infectious, might not do so well. It’s the same for all coughs, colds and also the flu. Anything respiratory transmits easily. Most people are ok but some get really sick and some die. Do all you can to protect others. If everyone does this viruses will be stopped in their tracks.

Herbiebanannas · 27/08/2023 10:22

It’s fine, she should go.

I am surprised you even had any tests and that you have ordered more.

If you feel ill you stay home if you can, if you don’t you just crack on. Tests make no difference (unless working with or visiting vulnerable people I suppose)

If I knew I had covid and I'd gone to the trouble to test etc - then I wouldn't go out until I tested negative. Otherwise, why bother to test in the first place?

I wouldn't and don't test though so I'd never have been any the wiser.

Love all the breezy ‘it’ll be fine’

I caught Covid 6 weeks ago. Tested negative after 7 days. Despite this l have permanent severe headaches, stomach problems, weakness, exhaustion and brain fog. Just been sick too.

Yeah sure, it’ll be fine.

She stayed home when ill , now she isn’t. It’s not like she is going out with a temperature and coughing and sneezing everywhere

Op said just a cold so I’d say more potential to spread Covid if still positive. I was still testing positive over a week later but felt ok. I’d prefer the person who gave me Covid had stayed bloody home when they were meant to (yes i know who it was)

She doesn’t know if she’s still positive.

And the person l caught it from wasn’t coughing and sneezing either.

SpunkyGibbon · 27/08/2023 11:58

I don't think she should go either

LlynTegid · 27/08/2023 11:58

Outdoors yes, would not think good to go to an indoor event. If positive still.

Proudofeveryone · 27/08/2023 12:38

It is an outdoor event. Think along the lines of watching her boyfriend play Sunday league football.
It is never crowded.

I still had tests left over from a couple of years.
