Cleaner Vs tv subscriptions

Sounds a ridiculous question.
I have recently become a single mum with 2 complex children at home and pregnant. I have had some leave off work but due back this week until maternity leave.
money is going to be tighter for around 4 months but should sort it self out after that. I have to cut back which I have done in many places. I need to get rid of either our cleaner ( twice a week ) or the tv package we have which mainly the children use so feel very guilty about it. Is it selfish to keep the cleaner??

Presumably only one of the children is of an age to watch TV if you're returning to work after mat leave? And are the kids in education in some way? If it's just for a few months then I'd keep the cleaner.

Lifeasweknowit25 · 27/08/2023 06:12

No sorry I’m currently pregnant and returning until I go on may leave.
they are both primary school aged.

Do you need the cleaner twice a week due to your children’s needs? Is it possible to cut down to once per week?

CuriousPorg · 27/08/2023 06:20

There is plenty on iPlayer for primary age. I'd cut the TV. Kids don't even watch the same shows as their peers now as there is so much choice so you won't be cutting out any "did you see last night's episode!!" type social opportunities either.

ALittleTeawithmilk · 27/08/2023 06:20

Keep the cleaner OP.

FarEast · 27/08/2023 06:21

Definitely keep the cleaner. Too much television isn’t good for children anyway.

Totalwasteofpaper · 27/08/2023 06:24

Keep the cleaner.

Cbbc and youtube etc have 1000s of hours of content.

Kaffiene · 27/08/2023 06:26

Keep the cleaner. Good cleaners are really hard to find. A Tv subscription is much easier to stop and start.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 27/08/2023 06:35

Keep the cleaner.

Lillianofthevalley · 27/08/2023 06:38

Cleaner!

AnSolas · 27/08/2023 06:41

Another vote for the cleaner
You can get the children to play and cut down on screen time.

Goldenboysmum · 27/08/2023 06:42

Definitely keep the cleaner, especially as you're pregnant, means a wee bit less for you do!

As others have said, there's plenty alternatives with you tube etc

How are a cleaner twice a week and a TV package the same cost?

StoatofDisarray · 27/08/2023 07:16

Cleaner.

continentallentil · 27/08/2023 07:18

Cleaner!

Bbc iplayer for the kids.

Agreed. Presumably it's Sky?

There are other, cheaper, TV options as well as terrestrial TV and Freeview channels.

Cut the cleaner to 1 days a week and audit your TV package and options.

I don't have a cleaner so don't know how much they cost but even it was only £50 ( and I'm guessing its actually more) a week whi in their right mind would be paying that much for children to watch TV?

I think this is the best idea
