Travel insurance question

We are due to fly in 6 hours but my 9 year old has just pebble dashed the bathroom with vomit. He was ok yesterday, but complained of feeling cold, and had a slightly raised temperature at bed time. We are clearly not getting on a plane, not least because a 5 day city break with one or more vomiting individuals will be horrific.

we have decent travel insurance through our bank and have cancellation cover including for unforeseen illness. Any ideas of the practicalities of this? Will he need to see a dr? And does that mean I need to use an emergency appointment for someone who probably doesn’t need one other than to satisfy insurers? It’s £2.5k we are talking about so not insubstantial.

we do have virtual GP services available through health insurance, would this be a viable route?

Don't they have a 24 hour claim phone no you could check with?

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 27/08/2023 06:25

I would presume they'd need proof of some sort, probably via a Dr.

@EversoDetermined yes they probably do, but it’s my husband’s policy and in his name. I’ll get him to call in a bit. I was online as I couldn’t go back to sleep, but I think he managed to.

@BanditsOnTheHorizon i expect so too and this is the bit I’m unsure about. There must be a way to achieve this but the policy documents don’t mention exactly how.

Try starting a claim online, you'll soon see what docs you need to provide. You can always cancel the claim halfway through if it's not needed

You'll definitely need proof to get it paid.

I would have still gone tbh.

@Flesh my 7 year old agrees with you. But he has a fever, can’t keep any food down, and is generally very unwell.

it would be beyond cruel to make him fly, and I don’t think anyone would thank us when we ruin their holiday too
