Is this normal Vinted etiquette?

On the hunt for some clothes for ever growing DD, found a few items from the same seller and put in a bundle request as it was up to 30% for bundles. The total amount came to £7 so I put my bundle request in.

The seller then messages me saying she would sell for £8.50. I've not sold much on Vinted but when I've had people request Bundles I have always accepted that (I don't do a bundle discount as I rarely sell anything for more than £1)

Why put the 30% discount for bundles if you're not prepared to honour that price? Is this usual Vinted etiquette? I know she doesn't have to sell me the items at any price but I was a bit surprised to have someone try and then barter on the price.

Is it 30% off for bundles or up to 30% off?
I often get caught by this looking at ordinary shopping sites. You get an email saying 50% off then realise that in tiny letters above it actually says up to. When you look most of the discounts are about 5%.

Idrankalltherum · 26/08/2023 18:24

I've just checked and she actually has it as up to 50% discount for bundles, I think the 50% must be if you buy more items. I just didn't think it was the done thing to then negotiate a higher price when you have set your own discount % for bundles!

A 50% discount for 5 item bundles is what Vinted sets for all new accounts, but lots of people don’t realise this and won’t realise until someone requests a bundle from them. This problem happens all the time. Personally I’d tell the seller to go through their settings and change them, but I think it’s a bit dodgy that Vinted do this to new accounts in the first place.

Sunnysunshine123 · 26/08/2023 18:50

So when you ask why people set it at 50%, they usually don’t, it’s a Vinted default until people realise and change it. Same as how not everyone realises you can change which couriers you’ll use.

Idrankalltherum · 26/08/2023 18:53

I had no idea about that @Sunnysunshine123, I think she must be a new seller as she had no feedback yet!

OP posts:
NoEffingWay · 26/08/2023 18:56

Just started selling and i'd like to know why sellers don't leave feedback, or say everything is okay or not immediately? It delays my payment (all feedback has been universally positive but has taken from a minute to the full two days to be actioned!)

4YOWoe · 26/08/2023 19:00

Bundle discounts are weird. How they work i have found is

If someone has up to 30% off and you have 4 things listed for £1

Item 1 is £1
Item 2 is 90p (10% off)
Item 3 is 80p 20% off
Item 4 us 70p 30% off

So not actually 30% off overall

PMAalltheway · 26/08/2023 19:22

So, the total amount for all items was £7 and when you requested a bundle price she raised the total to £8.50 rather than giving a discount? Sorry if I've misunderstood.

Idrankalltherum · 26/08/2023 19:29

Yeah exactly right

Maybe the seller is new, thinks she's on Ebay and not Vinted, Defo odd.

Start your own thread instead of taking on someone else's but why should a buyer 'action immediately'? Or action at all? You get your money anyway.

Because people have lives. You’ll get your money soon enough.

DyslexicPoster · 26/08/2023 19:40

She needs to change her bundle discounts. I have a few items on for £1 and doing bundles for 20% off 5 items. I have reset it again to 15% as I decided it was to low on my giveaway prices.

It's odd

It's not the norm

NoEffingWay · 26/08/2023 19:41

@Bonbonbonbonbons crikey, not trying to thread steal. (Would probably get accused of being repetitive anyway!). Yep, people have lives (so do I but manage to post on the same day as purchase, and am a decent seller/human being).

NoEffingWay · 26/08/2023 19:42

@FasciaDreams as per my pp, crikey!!!This is mumsnet ladies and gents, not a cat fightGrin

Most people are decent. You need to lower you expectations.

Well you're clearly not decent as you're posting on someone else's thread. Start your own,

NoEffingWay · 26/08/2023 19:43

@Bonbonbonbonbons yep, all taken on board. I bow to your superior knowledge Grin

NoEffingWay · 26/08/2023 19:46

@Idrankalltherum I've only been on mumsnet for the past 13 years.....apologies to you if you are crying into your tea about my original post! 😂 I didn't think this was worthy of starting a whole new thread to be told I am a horrible person who needs to 'get a life'

NoEffingWay · 26/08/2023 19:47

@FasciaDreams- With due regard, your comments have derailed this thread more than my one comment. Confused

Actually I thought that 'bundle discounts' were to account for saving on postage... also to entice people to buy more items of course!
Also IIRC sellers can accept or reject. It's been a while since I bought a bundle.

People seem to have different expectations, like the bundle price is lower to entice people and then 'seeing' what they want a seller can propose a higher price. But never more than the sum of all items anyway regardless of bundle!

I'd normally bundle up if I'm buying regardless of discount on multiple items to save on postage ( a £1 kids top isn't a bargin to me if its £5.50 with postage but three for £7.50 might tempt me).

I offer bundle discounts because I want stuff gone, the I remember I don't need £3 and stop listing.

Was the £7 just for the items though, and the £8.50 was a total for the items with a bit of a discount plus the postage?
