Kiln is nice in Ouseburn just out of the city centre.

Jesmond Dene lovely for a walk. Again not far out

Daveismyhero · 26/08/2023 18:28

Blackfriars is amazing for food or if you want more of a fancy tasting menu there's peace and loaf in Jesmond or house of tides.
Its worth getting the metro out to tynemouth and having a look around there, get food from rileys fish shack on the beach

KrazyboutKillian · 26/08/2023 19:10

Oh thank you both , Jesmond dene looks lovely , we will definitely go to Blackfriars , looks different to a standard restaurant.
we have been to tynemouth previously and I loved it there

Posting to bump more than anything.

We used lived in Newcastle, we left about 15 yrs ago. In retrospect, I was quite sad to leave as (among other reasons) the restaurants locally to me now aren't a patch on Newcastle. I'm delighted Blackfriars is still going strong 😁

If you're into art is worth a trip to the Biscuit Factory, and the Baltic on the Gateshead side of the quayside.

all either on the quayside or a short walk, hope you have a great time!

fireplacetiles · 26/08/2023 19:41

Mother Mercy for great cocktails, Horticulture for great brunch, Panis for the best Italian Food.

Summerhillsquare · 26/08/2023 19:46

All of the above. Fenwick's foodhall and the Grainger market too, ace pizza stall, cakes, tapas etc

I like a walk/scoot to st Peter's Basin on a nice day.

KrazyboutKillian · 27/08/2023 13:58

Thanks to everyone , some good ideas and I love a recommendation for a restaurant, so much better than going in ad hoc .

See what’s on at the Sage, on the south side of the Tyne, it’s a quick walk across the bridge. Check the schedule for the ‘Blinking Eye’ bridge which is usually lit up at night.
Visit the various beaches. Tynemouth is (imo) the best, but quite a walk from the metro, Cullercoats is closer.
Drive up the Northumberland coast, visit Lindisfarne (check the tides!) Go to the Running Fox in Morpeth, amazing ‘high tea’, you need to book.
Visit the castle in Newcastle. Walk up Dog Leap steps.
Drive to the Metro Centre for shopping, although Eldon Square in the town is good.
Take the train to Durham, visit the cathedral.
Visit the Life Science Centre-website: https://www.life.org.uk/visit/

Olive & Bean is great for brunch or cake & coffee.
In Grainger market there is an amazing stall for crepes.

Nolongera · 28/08/2023 12:40

Loads of bars and places to eat down the Ouse Burn, 10 mins walk from the quayside, The Tyne bar ( thetyne.com) often has free live music on outside, we like the Pitcher and Piano too.

Is the curry train still running? Corbridge has a curry house at the station. People watching on Friday or Saturday night.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 02/09/2023 20:09

Check out By the River as well. It isn't mega party-ish but great for socialising, live music and street food

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 02/09/2023 20:10

Rebel in Heaton is amazing as well

Hangingoctopus · 02/09/2023 20:12

Depending when you go, Jesmond has a food market on Armstrong bridge https://m.facebook.com/profile.php/?id=100063656975291
Second a walk along from Quayside to Ouseburn (amazing ice cream place) but lots of different interesting bars.
Recommend walking down the steps from the Moot Hall (next to Vermont Hotel) - all the way down to the quay side. It was where they would escort prisoners direct to boats out to the colonies. Loads of history around, you can do a tour of the Victorian coal tunnels https://www.ouseburntrust.org.uk/buy-tour-tickets

Just wanted to say I went to Newcastle for the first time this year, and I was bowled over how friendly everyone is! I’ve lived all other England and Scotland, but the Geordies blew me away with their cheerfulness.

Have a great time! Some great suggestions here and a bit late for you now you've booked but may help others who see the thread - khai khai for curry on the quayside.

Cyclingmummy1 · 08/09/2023 22:01

Di Meo's for ice cream.

Champagne bar in Spanish City for the view.

Fisherman's Bay (Whitley Bay) for fish and chips.

Fat Hippo for burgers.
