Post Mortem could not find a cause of death

My poor mum's PM showed no cause of death. She was healthy and only taking Rispiradone for mental health issues.

I'm in pieces....what on earth happened?

It must be very hard not knowing. Are they doing toxicology tests - these can take some time to come back. I remember having to wait some time when my mum died suddenly. I hope you are ok x

Pollywoddles · 25/08/2023 21:51

I’m sorry about your Mum. Was going to ask if the Tox results were back yet too.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 25/08/2023 21:55

I'm so sorry, it must be agonising
It's possible they are waiting for more results to come as there is no obvious cause at the moment

pinguins · 25/08/2023 21:56

This happened with my DDad. I spent hours on hold on the phone to the procurator fiscal's office daily for days, they said they'd send me the toxicology report etc but they never did. I had a pretty comprehensive mental breakdown shortly afterwards as it was the fourth close family member to die in the space of 4 months, so I never followed it up after the first few months. Sometimes I wonder what he died of. But I think there's no way of knowing now as too much time has passed so I just try to let it go.

I'm in the same boat. Awaiting toxicology and inquest results but it's been over 15 weeks

I’m so sorry that you are suffering this OP Flowers

They said they took small samples for testing and have released her to us for the funeral with an interim death certificate.

She had a total mental breakdown in 2020 (I won't bore everyone with my view on the effect lockdowns had on the elderly while politicians continued to party) and had to take Rispiradone. I was always worried about that drug but without it she had horrible hallucinations. I think it's caused her to have sudden cardiac arrest .....

OP sorry for your loss.

Did the PM show no known cause or did it show cardiac arrest? (With no known reason) if you see what I mean.

Im so sorry, I was in the same situation with my ex husband. Im dreading the day my son is old enough to ask what happened cause I wont be able to tell him.

You are not alone, this will take a long time to come to terms with, but surround yourself with people who care about you and find someone to talk to about how it all makes you feel.

The PM could not find a cause. No heart disease. I do know Rispiradone can increase the risk of sudden cardiac death.....I'm just guessing that's what happened.

I just need to know what happened. I hope she didn't suffer. From the way she was found, it seems she just suddenly went.

I was with my dad when he suddenly dropped dead from cardiac arrest. I can assure you that, if this is what happened to your mum, she did not suffer. My dad was chatting with me one second then on the floor dead the next. It was very traumatic for me but I could see from his eyes that there was zero awareness if that makes sense.

I'm so sorry for your loss; I will keep you in my prayers.

ForestofBears · 26/08/2023 07:53

This happened to me when DH died. I had no idea that it was possible for there to just be no answer, and that was really difficult. I did get an answer in the end from the histology and toxicology testing but it took months, and I was aware by then that sometimes a cause is never identified.
I am very sorry for the loss of your mum, and I hope that in time you get some answers and that helps a bit.

Beargrumps22 · 26/08/2023 08:15

I know having a cause can you move on so to speak but sadly sometimes no cause is the outcome. Recently happened when a young man died suddenly by us. He was young healthy just about to start a new career and move in with a partner next he was found dead. despite 3 pms nothing was found its hard when that happens
sending you hugs

How old was your mum, OP?

She was 81 and seemingly in good physical health.
