Two junior doubles as one enormous bed?

Is it a mad idea to get two junior doubles to create one massive bed? Has anyone tried it?

We really need a huge bed. I am such a terrible sleeper and I struggle to sleep with DH in the same bed, unless we go away and stay somewhere with a ginormous bed. Then I sleep much better. We were thinking that we could have different mattresses (as in, one softer, one firmer) and we could have different weights of duvets because I get colder than he does. It would also be easier to get into the house and up the stairs than a superking mattress.

But the downside would be that I guess we couldn't get one mattress protector or sheet, so it would still be two beds. Would that just be too annoying?

Has anyone tried this?

That actually sounds amazing! We have a super king frame with two normal single mattresses zipped together inside (couldn't get a super king mattress up the stairs!) which has the benefit that you can use one super king-size sheet

By junior double do you mean a 4" Queen double bed?

I'd watch the length. I notice how "short" a standard bed is now I'm used to a kingsize.

That said, we had the most gigantic bed in a rental house once - it was wider than it was long, and we had 3 pillows across the top (just!). It was bliss. We also had 2 duvets on it - DH had a 10 tog double, and then we both had a 4 tog king size over the top.

I think 2 zip link mattresses, at different firmesses, in a king frame might be better. Along with 2 double duvets - we were partially using existing bedding.

We have separate duvets on an ordinary king size bed and it’s a definite game changer. Really notice the difference when we’re on holiday. We both sleep better and disturb the other less. In our case mines the light one as night sweats / menopausal though!

Dh and I used to live in a country where two singles pushed together was pretty normal for a couple. There is an awkward gap down the middle. Just make sure one/each side is big enough for you both to be on if you want to be close to each other.

But yes, when we had small co-sleeping children, we also had a double and single pushed together (dc and I in double) and Dh on single. And separate duvets. I bloody loved it but Dh did not, because he would prefer to be right up my bum, whereas I’d rather be on the other side of the room! It’s much more peaceful with separate duvets.

Wouldn't two singles and two duvets on a super king base be big enough? It's significantly more space than a king size and can still buy sheets easily

You know a super king is the same width as two singles? Would two singles not be what you need?

You need super king or emperor, the latter is perfect for 2 duvets.

If you are both short in height, 2 singles pushed together would do. But they're only 190 cm long
