If I keep digging at this screw, I'll get through it right!?

I'm ready to pull my hair out :) :) :) I have tried every small screw driver possible and I'm not getting the screw so I'm digging away at it. Please tell me I'll get there

Can you snap it off and then tape it back on afterwards?

DarkAndWild · 25/08/2023 15:42

Have you tried with an elastic band in the screw for grip?

Merapi · 25/08/2023 15:44

You've uncovered the head of it. Now try some pliers to grip the head and try turning it that way.

Or take it to a jeweller/watchmaker who will have a screwdriver the right size.

i’m not clear why a screwdriver isn’t working, are they too big?

if so, do you have a glasses repair or cleaning kit as they have tiny screwdrivers? Or try the tip of a sharp knife?

It looks like attempts to unscrew it may have damaged the head so that screwdrivers aren't properly engaging now.

Btw, Something I'd not realised till recently is that there are different types of cross head screws and screwdrivers (Phillips and pozidrive) - using the wrong one can damage the screw.

AnneMarie87 · 25/08/2023 16:00

It won't move at all, can't get it to budge. Can't really go anywhere and need it today but I feel the more I'm digging the more I have of pulling it off/snapping it.

I used a small screwdriver from the beginning and don't see why it wouldn't have worked right away unless it was damaged already

I think you're causing more issues by digging. You need a drill to drill it out.

@AnneMarie87

What you can do - though it is pretty terminal to the screw and you will need a new one - is to use the nearest screwdriver size and glue to the screw using 2-part quick setting epoxy glue [Araldite]. You need to hold it till it sets but then should be able to unscrew without slipping. You can get the screw off by putting it [carefully] in a flame.
