We were very lucky and had 2 holidays (in uk camping/caravan) this year. Whilst it was great its also exhausting and hasn't left a lot of tine left in the holidays. I'm seriously thinking of not going away next summer but doing days out, meals etc like on holiday but in more local area- a stay cation in the proper sense.

Does anyone do this? 2 primary aged dc so not sure if a few nights somewhere will be more fun? Also on a budget.

Op we have done something like this and it was hard and long and boring.

Next year I would break it up more with various stops away 2 nights here and there not to far away.

Aboard in oct

I think it is a great idea. None of the holiday hassle but all of the holiday treats.

If it suits you then why not? Perhaps not every year but try it once.

We did it one year. Dh could only get a few days off here and there, so we went down the route of days out, being tourists in our own city. It was quite fun and it helped that most of our friends were about too for the other days off.

I think it depends where you are and how much you've already seen on your local area. I think a change of scenery is a really important and fun part of a holiday. If you're within day trip distance of beach/countryside/a nice city or town or village then it can be perfect . Lots of days out, but with a familiar, easy base.

You do need to ring fence the holiday time though, otherwise you can end up just slipping into being at home. I'd make a plan for each day and stick to it. Don't get caught up in work or housework or life admin during that time.

Thanks all, my parents live in another area so could go there for a week to break it up. This year we've been away when friends were home so that's been difficult too...
