Radio 2 Jeremy Vine today. Not washing clothes

I'm rarely caught talking to the radio but listening to the piece on not washing clothes was interesting.

Now I have 4 kids so I'm all for sniffing hoodies and putting them back in the Wardrobe, or wiping a tiny food stain off clean jeans with a baby wipe. But one bloke said he had 3 pairs of boxers that he wore three days at a time. Because he hadn't got any for Christmas for a while and when he went to buy some got lady's boxers by mistake. His reasoning also included helping his wife with less washing to do. Wtaf? He can't use a washing machine or buy pants? How the geff does he breath I and out without a woman's aid?

Another woman who has no main water so doesn't wash and washes everything in fairy liquid. Including her hair. One product and rain water is all you need? Really? No pooping in summer draughts? Burying your poo in the lawn? Taking make up off with fairy liquid?

Surely this is beyound environmental and cost reasons. How do you flush your loo and get enough rain water to drink and cook?

If I'm feeling mingy I can streach a dress to around four / five days. But I'm normally in a low mood and not seeing anyone but my kids.

Both seemed very pleased with themselves

Fairy liquid is so toxic to the environment. It should be re formulated.

I Couldn’t get past how did he not realise they were women’s pants! Does he have a 16” waste and thought the size 16 was inches!

someone has to be on the opposite end of the MN competitive hygiene spectrum

Jv always seems to find the most extreme, random examples of things to create a "debate" about. Can your rabbit ride a unicycle? Have you ever found a prosthetic leg in a canal, for example. A real life one I remember from a few months ago was a large aquarium exploded in a hotel...I mean that's a pretty niche thing to have happened to many people...🙄
I'm not one of the MN hygeine police either but this is just the opposite end of the spectrum. In reality most of us will be somewhere in the middle and would make fairly boring guests.

@Fizbosshoes that's like Kilroy back in the day with topics "When is murder wrong?" And "When is marrying your sibling not a good idea"

I'd get the rage at the TV when I was unfortunate enought to be off sick and watching daytime TV

Reminded me of a book I read recently on everyday living in medieval Britain.

So long as you washed yourself every day then you didn't need to wash your clothing. Not sure how often clothing was actually washed in those times but apparently not much.

Agree with changing your smalls everyday though - and also socks.

lightinthebox · 24/08/2023 14:21

I dunno, makes a change from the MN standard of ‘I lightly touched a towel so now it needs a wash’

Yes! I was imaging a man that's never left the house without his mummy or wife and didn't know there's a men's section, a kids section and a woman's section. Or that all pants are in his size. Bit like my cousin who asked to pack a overnight bag for him, toddler and wife and packed......... his toothbrush only

Even my teen son can order his clothes from H&M

It was adjoining the sealife centre and was really interesting. Lots of people have visited aquariums and other buildings with huge aquariums as features and it's that thought that actually, what if it imploded.

Had it happened just one hour later there would've been a significant human impact too as the lobby would've been busy with guests.
