Taking my dad to the nail shop for a mani pedi!

My dad has just retired and is in need of a little pamper bless him. He isn’t the best at looking after himself so we went out and bought him some nice new clothes, got his hair done at the barber and my elderly grandma (his mum) got him a voucher for the local nail shop.

However, is it embarrassing taking my dad for a mani pedi?! He won’t go by himself… Am I massively overthinking this? I mean, I get mine done regularly and I’ve never ever seen a man in there?! Is it a thing? I must add - he wouldn’t be getting pretty pink polish!!! Obviously just a cut/file/tidy up etc.

Never thought i’d be going on a nail shop trip with my father i’ll be honest 🤣

I have taken my dad before and he loved it! Not embarrassing at all 😀

Wonder whether an appointment with a podiatrist might be more comfortable for him?

AhNow123 · 24/08/2023 11:54

I think that’s really cool, though I’d get short shrift from my own pa if I suggested such a thing.

I tend my son and dh to the chiropodist.

chocolatewine · 24/08/2023 11:56

I agree with the above poster that a podiatrist might be more suitable.

CuntRYMusicStar · 24/08/2023 11:58

I used to take my grandma to the chiropodist to get her feet done - they always did a really good job and kept her feet in good shape.

Whataretheodds · 24/08/2023 12:00

I think the podiatrist or chiropodist would be more suitable for foot care as the nail bar are more focused on making things look nice than health.

But your grandma has already bought him the voucher. Might you or someone else make use of the nail bar voucher and put the same value towards the chiropodist/podiatrist?

If not it's not the end of the world, can he go during the day/ at a less busy time?

ChocHotolate · 24/08/2023 12:06

I do know that some older people go regularly as they can get their nails trimmed and feet cared for whilst cheaper than a podiatrist. Also get a cup of tea and a chat

I bought a man manicure for a friend, but he likes his grooming. He quite enjoyed it!

Karatema · 24/08/2023 12:34

My DH loves me to do his nails but sometimes, I make an appointment with my nail technician. He likes to be first so he's not queuing "with all those women looking at me!" 🤣

breaktheslates · 24/08/2023 13:20

I have treated my young adult son to the same, and to back massages, quite ordinary to the salon. Your dad will enjoy it

NerrSnerr · 24/08/2023 13:21

Surely he can decide whether he wants a mani-pedi or to see a podiatrist? Just make sure he knows the difference and he can choose.

My dad has regular mani pedi. He loves them.
