Help! Bird in bed

So I’ve just been woken by something rustling next to my head. Leap out of bed and it’s a sparrow beside me on the pillow!
Spent 5 minutes eying each other up. I went out the room to get a lid of water and a box but it s gone. It appears to have gone under the bed but the bed is against the wall ( there’s a small gap).
What now? Leave it? Ir try and rescue it ( large heavy bed) and hope it doesn’t go into shock?

Our cat used to catch bats and bring them in. She must have sat near their roost and swiped one as they came out at dusk. A couple of times we've had bats in the house. Whilst terrifying, for me anyway, leave a window open and they do seem to find a way out.

I think bats are fairly good at hiding in the day so can be difficult to get out. You don't have to live in the countryside to get them in the house - I know a couple of people where I live in London who have got them in their houses.

Quick update.
Stayed in the bedroom as I thought best to try and help it if it needed it. Turned off the light and it would be rustling about. I have tons of stuff stored under the bed so dragged a few boxes out. This went on all night. Light off, rustle, light out try and help it.
About an hour ago when it got light it decides to starting flying . Right onto my face! I panicked a bit even though I knew it was just a harmless bird.
I opened the curtains and it flew around a bit before heading to the window but of course the closed bit. I went to guide it out and it actually sat on my hand! Amazing and very cute.
Then flew out of the window down to the hedge across the road. Where I then see neighbours cat saw it and moved towards it’ll So put on my dressing gown to run downstairs out the front to shew it away. No sign of either when I got there so fingers crossed the bird made it. As much as I have had no sleep it was really special holding it.
I am knackered.

@Awittyfool

what a night! Lovely it perched on your hand!

We had a bat in our house once! Only noticed it when it was dark and it started flying about the living room. We opened the window and thought it had gone but found it a few days later on an item of clothing on the radiator. The animal welfare arrived within half an hour to take it away. I put it in a box till she came.

Fingers crossed the moggy didn’t get it 😬

A few years ago a crow fell down my chimney. He just hopped onto my hand (surprisingly heavy) and stayed there while I took him to the front door to fly away.

It was the weird and amazing in equal measures.

The cat was utterly baffled and wisely kept her distance.

We once had a starling get stuck in our chimney, had to call someone out to disconnect the gas fire to let it out. Expensive wee bugger! 😅

Ah I'm glad it got out. A few weeks ago I woke up to find the cat meowing loads. I thought she was wanting her breakfast. Anyway I got up to get ready to go for a run and she wouldn't move away from the airing cupboard and was poking inside the little gap with her paw. I had a look and saw nothing but she still wouldn't move away. Got back from my run and DD excitedly told me her and DH had found a sparrow in there and had managed to capture it in a box and let it go! Dcat not impressed 😂

I live on the coast so it's seagulls for us.

We have a pair nest on the roof every year. We have had chicks fall down the chimney a few times. Ok if they land in the room with the open fireplace (apart from the mess) but one year, a chick landed behind the gas fire in the dining room.

Agree that it's a complete pain when that happens. We didn't use the fire so have never bothered having it reconnected. There's another open fireplace now in case it happens again.
