What do I need for the beach?

Hi everyone, I'm going away to the North of England for a beach holiday with my sister and my two DC's age 3 and 6 next week.
Knowing them, we'll be on the beach (weather permitting) pretty much all day every day.
Does anyone have any genius hacks/ tips/ tricks to make it easier and more fun? We're taking the festival trolley to carry the kids and stuff.
Thanks 😊

Talcum powder to help remove sand from feet.

Peabody25 · 23/08/2023 20:44

Crocs or similar for feet! Can be comfier than bare feet for walking to the sea and easier to wash off than proper trainers.

Plenty of food and drink in a cool box with ice blocks.

Put together a mini first aid kit with plasters, germolene, wipes etc.

Take a plastic backed picnic blanket so if the sand is damp you can still sit comfortably.

Talc in a sock, it is brilliant for getting sand off feet and legs.

If you have long hair, throw a couple of hair ties in the bag, so you can tie hair back easily if it's windy.

Empty plastic bag for throwing in anything wet/excessively sandy.

Beach shoes. Sports direct ones are by a company called hot tuna. They are brilliant for adults too

Fold up camping chairs, waaaay more comfy than sitting on the sand!

Something other than a bucket and spade, my ds has a plastic tipper lorry/digger which always goes down well with all the kids on the beach!

My parents used to put big plastic bottles of water in the car. Think 2L type bottles of coke refilled with tap water. We would then sit in the car with legs dangling out and get hosed down with the water. No sand or gritty feet for the journey home. I always thought that was clever.

Caledoniablue · 23/08/2023 21:50

Definitely talcum powder to help get sand off feet!
I always take baby wipes to clean hands once finished applying sun cream too can then eat a beach picnic without everything tasting like greasy coconut Grin

Thanks all- these are fab and actually loads I hadn't thought of- I've started a list.
Tipper truck, beach shoes, plastic bags and talc are all ones I hadn't even thought of.

Half fill some bottles with water and freeze, top up before you head off and should have lovely cool water to drink all day.

Take a couple of swimming costumes/shorts each for the kids, I found mine would get changed then decide they want to go back in the sea again, nothing worse than putting a wet cozi on!

Gorgeouscombes · 23/08/2023 22:48

Wetsuits for the kids. It stops them chilling off once they’ve been in the sea (Mine want to run in and out all day - any wind and they are frozen after the first dip) great for keeping the sun/ wind off too.

Cupcakegirl13 · 23/08/2023 22:50

Yes defo a towel and change of clothes for the children , I have a non beach loving child and two that love it so I always take some colouring and uno for them , we also have a pop up beach tent .

WhoHidTheCoffee · 23/08/2023 22:59

Definitely a pop up beach tent! Favourite purchase ever - shade and something to sit on.

CheersToMe · 23/08/2023 23:12

Shortie wetsuits
Windbreak
Chairs
Flasks or insulated mugs for coffee, soup, hot chocolate

Mykittensmittens · 23/08/2023 23:15

A fitted sheet.

i’m not mad. If you put it wrong way up on the beach and in each corner put a bucket/bag/ball whatever you create a mini ‘pen’ which a lot
less sand gets into than towels laid out.

Check first the Sea is safe to swim in. Our favourite local beach had an incident with sewerage this summer.

beach tent, beach chairs, picnic blanket, beach towel, toys / games / bucket and spades, a book, beach shoes, short wetsuits, hats, sun cream, small / low camping table, snacks. Windbreaker. I saw one set up one year with camping stove and kettle.

and as you said north, a jumper, factor 50 and an umbrella. Youll probably need all in one day.
