Due to fly next Tuesday morning and dd has a couple of spots on her face. One very much looks like it's got a head to it, the other side more just flat blotchy, it's actually faded a little since this morning. No other spots anywhere atm.
Shitting myself as I know we won't be able to fly if it is as Ryan air policy is 7 days after last spot appears.
Dd has a milk allergy and recently (last couple of days) we've noticed she's reacting to soya. She has had small patches of hives on her thighs on and off.
We haven't been anywhere like soft play. Around other kids or anything, only place would be the park in the town a couple of weeks ago and she went on a baby swing. Can you catch chicken pox off a swing ??

I'm trying to tell myself it's a rash from the soya

The last pic is it about an hour ago

I think you can catch chicken pox anywhere but unlikely from what you said. No idea about airline policy but I'd question how on earth they'd know? It's not like they examine kids before they get on, most flights they can't get you on the plane fast enough.

Hollyhead · 23/08/2023 15:02

You need to look up to 3 weeks back as it’s a 14-21 day incubation window, but cp is transmitted by being in close contact with someone else who has it for 10-20 mins. It’s not generally spread by contact with items so I’d say the baby swing is very unlikely.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 23/08/2023 15:02

Oof, it could be from that one on her cheek, but equally may not. I think you are just going to be on pox watch for a day or so, if more appear they will likely not be just on her face. Is she ok in herself, not otherwise poorly?

Doesn't particularly look like chicken pox... It usually starts on the trunk of the body, so back and/or chest, before spreading to face and limbs within a day or so. That's not to say it 100% isn't, but I'd say more likely it's a contact or allergy rash, or just general baby spots!

PetitPorpoise · 23/08/2023 15:04

In my experience, you bloody know about it if it is chicken pox. When my son had it, I noticed about ten spots on his back and torso in the morning, and by early evening there were hundreds of bright red awful spots. They weren't on his face until the next day.

havingapanic · 23/08/2023 15:06

She seems fine in herself, she is teething aswell but seems fine the last few days with her gums.

Haven't been around anyone for ages. We've had a pretty boring school holidays to be honest !

Just such bad luck if it is chicken pox as we've really been looking forward to this holiday

How fast do the spots appear ? Would she have more by now? We noticed them first thing she woke up with them

Hard to say from pics. DD started with one spot on her eyebrow but by day 2 had plenty of spots on back and torso. How long have the spots been there?

qazxc · 23/08/2023 15:08

If it is by tomorrow there would be loads.

FlowersareEverything · 23/08/2023 15:12

It’s hard to tell if it’s the start of chickenpox. It could just be little midge bites.

sxary · 23/08/2023 15:13

Not sure how they'd know you were 7 days from last spot appearing - I thought as long as they were scabbed over you were okay.

DD2 seemingly caught chickenpox from nowhere, DD1 had been exposed numerous times but didn't catch it (until she caught them from DD2). Mine didn't have loads but if it is chickenpox you'll likely have several more spots by tomorrow.

havingapanic · 23/08/2023 15:13

I have such bad anxiety and pox watch is not going to be fun lol so stressed thinking if it is we can't go

It's just the fact if they aren't scabbed by then really, and apparently you need a fit to fly certificate which my doctors don't do

I'm in the same boat with my 3 year old, we fly Monday night and found out a friends child had chicken pox a few days after we had been at a party almost 2 weeks ago, will be 2 weeks sat. I'm stressing myself out so much with the thought of him coming out with spots when we are out there, and having to stay behind with him when my husband comes home with the older kids. My parents have actually offered to take him for the week so we don't have to stress and worry and I'm tempted but then the mum guilt kicks in and the thought of not being with him if he does start with it makes me feel worse, even though I know he would be absolutely fine with my parents.

I wish I had just paid for the vaccine when he was younger after my nephew caught it as a baby and was soooo poorly with it. And the older kids are sooo looking forward to the holiday!

GingerIsBest · 23/08/2023 15:28

If you noticed the spots this morning, by this evening, if it's chicken pox, there will be loads more. So you will know soon.

If it is chicken pox, I'm afraid a Tuesday departure is unlikely - at that point she'll most likely be covered in spots that are still oozing and not crusted over. You need to work on the assumption that it's a minimum of a week from when the first spot appears, but usually closer to 10 days, before all the spots are crusted.

Phos · 23/08/2023 15:28

Could it be hand, foot and mouth? When my daughter got it she started with 2 random spots on her cheek.

TropicalTrama · 23/08/2023 15:30

If it’s an allergic reaction it’ll come right down with a dose of antihistamines. Presuming you have it in the house if she has allergies so may as well try it and see? To my untrained eye they look like insect bites maybe but it’s the dreaded pox you’ll know soon enough because they’ll be everywhere by tomorrow. If you escape this time maybe book the vaccine for when you’re back so you don’t have this stress again?

Same here!

havingapanic · 23/08/2023 15:33

I mean it's a possibility but again, we haven't been anywhere for her to get it?

@TropicalTrama Haven't got any antihistamines, maybe I should stock up considering !

And yes I think I will get the vaccine for her, ds didn't get them until he was 7 but it never really crossed my mind with him to be honest

OP posts:
Duddlepucks · 23/08/2023 15:35

My son got them exactly 2 weeks after being exposed to friend who had them. He had about 4/5 on his chest to start. The next day more appeared and so on until he was covered in them!

TropicalTrama · 23/08/2023 15:38

No contact at all with other kids for 3 weeks?

Can you go to a pharmacy? Pharmacists are pretty good at identifying rashes and you could pick up some antihistamines to try whilst you’re at, especially as they’re probably a sensible thing to have in the house anyway given she has allergies.

havingapanic · 23/08/2023 15:38

I think with ds he had one on the back of his neck, then a couple on his chest and then a couple on his face. But to be honest he never got them bad at all. I wish I could remember what they looked like in the beginning

First symptom of chicken pox in my kids was massive grumpiness, horrid, completely not themselves.

Spots came after 2 days of wondering what yet hell was up with them.

If she's fine in herself then fingers crossed it's not pox

havingapanic · 23/08/2023 15:54

No I can't get to a pharmacy now unfortunately

I've just noticed these behind her ear, no idea how long they've been there as they're in a hidden place I've had to move her hair out of the way. Not sure if you can see very clearly on the pics but they look quite blotchy
