Day Three of Trying to Cancel Morrisons Delivery Saver

nomdegrrr1 · 23/08/2023 08:30

I usually can't take the hold music for more than twenty minutes at a stretch and apparently the delivery saver can only be cancelled by ringing a 0345 number.

Any suggestions or fun cat memes to keep me going?

I am running out of my 'free' minutes. Not looking forward to trying to get through at 55p per minute when that happens.

Yep, I left a message there on Monday. They get back within 5-7 working days. My next payment is due to go out on 29th. I suspect I won't be able to cancel before that, not through malice but because of paperwork.

Fortunately it's the monthly pass that I got to see us through the summer holidays and not a year's payment.

I've had another look, and their line is open until 11pm. Fingers crossed I can get through a little later. If you check their terms and conditions, they say that you cancel in writing, but that's not on the main website. I guess if I can't through tonight, I'll post a letter. At least that's freepost.

Just do it online don't use it again and ask for a refund if they take the money.

You can't cancel online. You have to either phone in (according to main site) or write in (according to terms and contitions). There isn't even an option to not renew which is annoying.

I have learned my lesson.

Is there another option when you ring to upgrade to a different delivery service? When trying to cancel our TV deal DH would be on hold for 20 minutes before getting cut off and having to ring back. After a few times he pressed the option to upgrade and lo and behold someone answered straight away. It was then quicker to be transferred to cancellations through them.

nomdegrrr1 · 23/08/2023 13:18

@EdithGrantham I haven't heard any of those. I've found buttons to change payment details, but not to stop/pause/upgrade. I'll have another listen later this evening (house is currently a lot noisier).

I tried getting through to both their delivery line and general customer service line, and the customer service line wait was down to forty minutes last time I checked.

As it's a monthly payment, it could be worse. I'm almost certainly going to get another payment taken, but it's not a huge amount. I'd just rather not pay it at all.

Can you just cancel the direct debit?

GrimGrinningGhosts · 23/08/2023 13:19

Can you go at it the other way and cancel the Direct Debit with the bank? Disclaimer, I don't know how Morrisons Delivery Saver works though.

GrimGrinningGhosts · 23/08/2023 13:19

Great minds @timegoingtooquickly

nomdegrrr1 · 23/08/2023 13:23

I suppose I could cancel the direct debit - I have enough time and the bank are pretty good. I had a quick look at the terms and conditions, and non-payment suspends the delivery pass but doesn't stop it as far as I can see. I'm not sure if they would keep trying to collect payment until the damned thing is cancelled.

Edited to add (because I finally can): I'm not sure that even if I cancel payment without cancelling the delivery saver, they wouldn't keep adding up a debt - ie August's payment, September's payment, October's payment all owing. I think I've seen it happen to other people with gym memberships.

@timegoingtooquickly @GrimGrinningGhosts

This is what I had to resort to when trying to cancel DD's glossy box.
It had been a birthday present and got a bit too same-y and not very good value any more but they literally made impossible to cancel and every avenue was a dead end.

Companies really make it as hard as possible and hope we just give up!

Cancelling the direct debit was the only way!!

🤣 I always do this first and then contact whoever

OP- you've got evidence on your phone that you have been trying to contact them if there's a problem later

That is a very good point, plus Facebook messages.

Twitter is usually a good shout for company complaints. They won't won't people to know how difficult it is to cancel.

goingtotown · 23/08/2023 13:31

OP 0345 numbers cost the same as ringing a regular landline.

nomdegrrr1 · 23/08/2023 13:31

@booktokbear I'll have a look at that if I can't get through later.

I've altered and changed the plan with Tesco without any of this bother. I only went with Morrisons for the summer because they have a particular fizzy pop that son likes and Tesco don't.

nomdegrrr1 · 23/08/2023 13:33

@goingtotown I checked on my mobile phone tariff and they're 55p for me. I have around 300 free minutes left so hopefully I'll be fine.
