What to get DS nursery as a last day gift?

DD finishes at a lovely little nursery next week. I don't really know which "one" lady looks after him. Since Covid it's always someone different that comes to the door, they must have 5-6 different ladies- all are amazing and so caring. Very home from home feel. I don't know what to get them. My DD will be staying there for the next year or so. Any suggestions?

Chocolate or tin of biscuits ….

Wellhellother · 23/08/2023 07:24

We got a box of chocolates and a selection of cakes from the local cake shop to share

Chocolates or fancy biscuits always go down well in our staff room.

Mini bottle of wine each. Or ask if they're planning a Christmas meal and, if so, give them money towards it (it's always nice when we can have a free meal out somewhere).

My DS just finished one nursery before moving on to another. He had a key worker but liked all the teachers in his room so I just got a card thanking them all and a big tub of celebrations. I really don’t want to start getting in to the elaborate gifts for teachers every year.

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 23/08/2023 07:32

I got a tub of chocolates and some craft resources for the preschool room.

InMySpareTime · 23/08/2023 08:15

A small individual chocolate bar or fancy biscuit pack each, labelled with each worker's name.
IME a collective box of anything gets swiped by the staff who spend least time with the children, as they have more time to sit in the staff room eating.
I used to work in day nurseries and had some awkward moments when I'd meet parents of children who left, and they'd ask if I liked the gifts they gave staff. Often I'd never even known they'd left anything as certain staff members (management favourites) would scope out the best stuff and swipe it before room staff got a look in.

I work in a team in a SEN setting. We had a parent (moved on now) who used to bring us, basically, a bag of shopping at gift times. There would be instant coffee, tea, packs of biscuits and things like matchmakers that are easy to share. It was great, because when we came back after the holiday, our kitchen was stocked up with snacks. We really appreciated it!

Oh fruit! Please not Chocs and biscuits they are cheap and have no nutrition.

A big basket of fresh fruit.

Anothernamechangeee · 23/08/2023 09:00

I got mine a card each saying thanks and a £5 Costa gift card as there was one next to the nursery

I don't think 'nutrition' is a key consideration for a thank you gift!

We brought in a cake, which the boys decorated, for staff to share; and a book each for the library.

avocadotofu · 23/08/2023 09:08

We got biscuits for the staff generally and gave £50 each to the people who been with him since baby room.

Jamtartforme · 23/08/2023 09:08

We’ve done a pottery mug with DD handprint and her ‘graduation’ year. It’s a bit fancy for us but we were at the cafe making Christmas presents anyway and I thought it could be a gift for their staff kitchen. Will also do a card and a bottle of something for her key worker.

Rocknrollstar · 23/08/2023 09:29

A basket of mini toiletries from Boots or Body Shop. We did that when my DH had been in the same ward so often that we couldn’t believe they needed any more chocs or biscuits.

NotAMug · 23/08/2023 09:52

Fruit is pointless, they may not be able to eat it all on the last day, chocs will keep. Also its a treat/thank you gift.

I knew the staff well and got them drinks they liked plus wine glass charms with their initials one year. Other years it would be something individual maybe, for instance one had just got a kindle so i got them vouchers. The staff always loved the personalised thoughtful gifts but chocs/biscuits were always appreciated. If you are doing shared gifts take them in on Monday so they have all week to share them.

Ah there’s always one!

Get a big bag of spinach for them to share perhaps.

CuntRYMusicStar · 23/08/2023 09:59

I always got big boxes of nice biscuits. They can go in the staff room and last long enough to be shared out with brews 😆

InMySpareTime · 23/08/2023 10:09

Please put names on gifts or they don't get to the people who actually helped your child.
I remember one year the manager took all the gifts at "graduation" and "shared them out". The favourites got cases of wine, Prosecco and spirits. I got one small tin of shortbread despite being the staff member most often in the room with all the children while others sat chatting to manager in the office for hours.
It was one of the reasons I left childcare.

queenofthewild · 23/08/2023 11:40

Tea and coffee - staff have to buy their own and it's lovely not to have to.

Book vouchers are a nice gift, especially if you have a local independent book store. Staff can either treat themselves or buy classroom resources or CPD books.

PresentPrincess1 · 25/08/2023 19:35

I got a big box of crisps, in similar circumstances. I thought the staff could share them out. It seemed to be appreciated. I thought it was better than chocolates as they wouldn't melt.

AlltheFs · 25/08/2023 19:40

I’ve ordered a box of mixed brownies from Cutter and Squidge for the staff to share (nut free ones as our nursery is nut free) and then for the staff in her room (there’s 7 of them) I’ve got a cute little handmade chocolate thing each from a lady that makes chocolate gifts near me (they were about £3.50 each) and DD has made a card for each of them.
