Another parking thread (with diagram!)

Just want to find out if I would be unreasonable to report my neighbour’s car? Sorry for the long post but don’t want to drip feed!

A bit of background (I have attached a diagram which hopefully makes sense!) we live in a small cul-de-sac where every house has an allocated parking space and a garage (although these aren’t right next to the houses for most residents), and there is also quite a bit of public street parking available.

A neighbour has a car that has not moved for over a year and is presumably not running - it has had no MOT since last August and no tax since January. It is not parked in an allocated space, but on the public street. It’s actually parked in quite an inconvenient place for a lot of residents as the front of the car is overhanging the driveway/lane that goes round to the blocks of garages and the road is quite narrow so it makes it a bit difficult to manoeuvre around it. It’s also parked in a way that makes it impossible to get out of my allocated space and up the road without going up on the kerb as the turning space is massively reduced.

The owner of the car is a bit odd - he doesn’t open the door if you knock (when we know he is definitely home) and ignores anyone who tries to talk to him in the street. Another neighbour has popped a note through the door as they are having the same problem, which has also been ignored.

So my question is am I a horrible person if I report his car to the council/police because it’s parked on a public road with no tax and MOT?

We had a jeep parked up near us. No tax, no insurance, no mot and accident damage. As the weeks wore on it became obvious it was being used as a pool car for the estate half a mile up the road and being parked out of the way more and more damage was appearing on it.

The police were useless. I was met with a constant stream of ‘we need to catch them driving it before we can do anything’.

Reporting to the DVLA, you might have better luck. The jeep did vanish eventually, it I don’t know if it was towed or just fell apart from the damage tbh.

@HolliDays I’m loving your addition to the OP’s excellent diagram so much that I had to add to it. NotQuiteOrangeCross would need to drive past annoying neighbour (green arrow) and reverse in (blue).

Sorry, can now see you have already reported

Anyhow, keep us posted, will you edit the diagram once the car has gone? 😀

Just a quick update - the car is gone! I reported to the council & DVLA, but don’t know if they had a chance to take any action. About a week after I reported it we had a letter from the council advising that our road would be closed for 2 days this week for resurfacing & that all cars had to be moved off the road during the works. I was quite relieved when I saw the dates because we’re away on holiday this week so wouldn’t be affected! Then on Wednesday morning I was chilling on a lounger by the pool & got a notification from my Ring camera that there was movement at the front of our house & it was the road workers putting a tow rope on the car & taking it away - result!

That was handy. Thank you council for resurfacing the road.

Yes - it’s needed doing for years, so the council has made me double happy - resurfaced road AND got rid of that fecking car!

That's a happy ending!

We've had a car parked almost opposite our drive for about 5 or 6 months at least now. There are plants growing through the tarmac near the wheels. I've been checking tax/MOT though and the tax was renewed in July. I'm astounded - if they hadn't driven it for at least 4 months, why bother retaxing it? It particularly irritates me because they have space for 3 cars on their drive and it's on the road in just the place that makes it difficult for me to get in and out of my drive without having to manoeuvre very carefully.

It’s bonkers isn’t it - with the rising costs, I can’t imagine spending all that money on insurance & tax for something that isn’t being used!
