Anyone had their kitchen cupboards paint sprayed?

I hate my kitchen as it's that awful orangey wood. But I can't afford to redo it any time soon.

Has anyone had theirs sprayed by one of those companies? If so, would you mind sharing the cost (I know it will vary on kitchen size but would like a ball park) and how long it lasted before chipping please?

When they spray or wrap,do they do the insides of the cupboards too. I was thinking about painting my own but couldn't work out how to do the fiddly bits like the deep corner cupboards or wine rack.

Thanks everyone!

Hmmm, £3k is a bit out of budget at the moment. I will keep saving, and also see how new doors compare! Or just try and befriend a car sprayer.

That looks lovely though @bilbodog and such a huge difference.

I've got 3 DC (oldest is 3) so sadly I've definitely not got time to do it myself at the moment.

it can be done using frenchic al fresco paint. Just clean them, sand them well and the paint lasts really well.

if you like dark colours then smudge is good and very forgiving, wise old sage is nice too, not sure how well the really light colours work. Lots of fb groups about frenchic upcycling for inspiration. Good luck.

I did my cabinets myself. I used Little Greene Paint - their All Surface Primer and then their Tom’s Oil as the topcoat. 2.5L tin of each, so probably around £140.

Two years down the line, they look exactly the same. No chips, easy to wipe clean. Yes, it’s a faff using a few days in total to get it done, but worth it in the end. The grey is before, the green is after. Not to everyone’s taste, but I like it.

Fyi, the grey was also the same brand. Done around six years before I changed it, no reason apart from wanting a change. Same as before, Co chips/damage and easy to wipe clean.

We ended up painting ours with primer, paint and varnish. Made the distressed look part of it as couldnt get a,smooth finish so shabby chic is,still very much a thing here. New handles. Its not a new kitchen but its no longer orange pine everywhere.

Any chance you could share a photo, @Robertplantgoddess ? I'm considering painting my orange pine, too.

Can someone tell me about vinyl wrapping please? Any pictures? Idea of cost?

I’ve been investigating this and by far the cheapest solution I’ve found is buying new doors and handles and getting a local guy to fit them. I had some bedroom furniture sprayed and it looks great but it’s not hard-wearing enough for a kitchen.

This is a good idea. And much less messy!!

peachgreen · 23/08/2023 10:38

That green is gorgeous @Furries. You're making me reconsider!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/08/2023 10:42

No, but dd and SiL painted some really horrible old dark brown melamine kitchen cupboards - the transformation was unbelievable. Don’t know how long it would have lasted though - kitchen was replaced maybe 18 months later.

Must depend where you are in the country. We have just had 2 quotes to respect 13 doors, plinths and end panels. £1000 from one person and about £980 from the other and £240 i think, to spray the tiles. We are in Yorkshire

Furries · 23/08/2023 11:23

@peachgreen - definitely worth considering for the cost alone! It’s also quite satisfying to see your own end result.

All woodwork through into the hallway is now white and all the walls in kitchen and hallway are now Pale Stone. I have never had tiles, don’t see the point of them in my space (oven hob has a glass lid which acts as a splashback). This means that, theoretically, I can have the cupboards any colour I want. So, if I get bored of it in a few years, then it’s a pretty cheap and easy way to get what feels like an updated room.

So after bragging how I repainted my doors I thought putting clear varnish on them would protect them. Did a lovely paint job then totally fucked it up with the varnish. It looks like cold tea and been spilled all over my doors.
So guess whose been in B&Q all bloody weekend buying new doors

cpphelp · 28/08/2023 13:11

My friend did it herself and it looks SO good. Did a little at a time so it's not overwhelming

Iwasafool · 28/08/2023 13:13

I had mine done 12 years ago and they are showing a few chips now but have been great. I didn't go to one of those kitchen companies, well I did get a quote and I might as well have had a new kitchen. Found a place on a local industrial estate that would spray anything, removed the doors and dropped them off. They did a great job, can't remember exactly how much I paid but I think it was 200 of 300. I got a local handman to fit new work tops and it really looked great.

Ohmylovejune · 28/08/2023 13:22

My parents did. They used a local tradesman who also fitted new handles, new hob, hood and sink and taps, and new worksurfaces to complement. Plus flooring and wall tiles.

They picked a light dusky blue chalk style paint over pine doors and it looks super. I was with Dad this weekend and commented on how lovely it still.is.

The kitchen was about 30 years old when it was refurbished but made very well and the painting was done probably 10 years ago now. Sadly I can't get the exact price as Mum passed last year but I have a feeling everything was about £2.8k as I recall she was surprised at how much it added up to but when you think it was only the units, unit fitting, and some appliances that stayed the same - there was still quite a bit of work to do and materials on the refurb.
