Covid and nursery

Does anyone know how long a child (4 year old) needs to stay off nursery if they test positive for covid?

If they are ill then they shouldn't attend. If they need pain relief they shouldn't be there. If they are positive then it will spread and lead to staff sickness. Just be sensible and keep them off. Did you do a test on them to find out?

PinkPlantCase · 22/08/2023 07:25

I don’t think nurseries expect anyone to test for covid anymore.

If they had a temperature I’d keep them off, if not and they can function without pain killers I’d send them in.

If covid gave them an upset stomach I would I follow the usual 48 hours guidance for runny poo.

She starred Sunday with a temp and not herself, she was fine after pain relief.
Woke up Monday morning and she was same again high temperature, complains of headache and her legs were aching. Gave her pain relief and she was fine again.
My mum who is classed as vulnerable was due to visit us today. I didn't want my mum coming over incase it was covid. I managed to find a test in the cupboard yesterday afternoon. I tested her just incase and it came up positive straight away.

Dd is due back at nursery Thursday

If she has a high temp and/or needs calpol, I wouldn't send her in and I'd probably leave it 48 hours after the temp goes.

dementedpixie · 22/08/2023 07:32

I'm sure 3 days is advised for children (or used to be). Maybe ask nursery what their policy is

Musicalmistress · 22/08/2023 07:32

NHS guidance in our area has just been updated to say 3 days for children if tested positive, 5 days for an adult.

belle1993 · 22/08/2023 07:33

She seems much better this morning. No temp just a blocked nose. I will see how she gets on today and tomorrow.

Google says keep off for 3 days. Thursday will be her 5th day so if she's ok and no longer needs pain relief. Would I be wrong to send her back?

The nhs info seems to say if you feel OK but dont know its covid then you can go but if you have tested and are positive then maybe stay home for 3 days if under 18.

Shrinkingviolet6 · 22/08/2023 07:45

Do you need her to go in on Thursday or will you be at home and able to look after her?

TheBarbieEffect · 22/08/2023 07:46

If she seems fine just send her 🤷‍♀️

belle1993 · 22/08/2023 09:09

I have work Thursday that's why she will be there. It's also her last day at nursery before she starts school.

She seem totally fine today so far so I'm sure Thursday she will be ok. Her temp is back to normal and no longer complains of feeling poorly

Sounds like she’ll be fine for Thursday 🙂
