Have you ever got rid of something which turned out to be valuable?

I'm doing a clear out and had set aside things for the charity shop, one of which is a 1960s clock belonging to my late MIL.
I happened to look it up, and it's selling on a retro site for over £300.

Just wondering if you have given away/thrown out something which turned out to be valuable?

Yes a probably 1930s copy of Ballet Shoes that I'd bought in a jumble sale as a child got thrown away when I left home, worth about £300 now! Gutted.

A lot of signed competition tickets by someone who is now a famous Olympian. It wasn't me that threw them away, but a family member.

A first edition Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone book. We also had a the next 2 books as first edition as well. I was keeping them at my parents house. They had a clear out and were donated to charity accidentally 🙈

not thrown away, but I have a number of first edition books that I read in the bath and used as coasters so they're now ridiculously tatty. A trip around the rare book sellers a Charing Cross Road had me cringing at how much they'd be worth had I not done so.

Several hundred years ago (1993?) I was walking through Hoxton Square in London. An art event was on. A man dressed as a clown asked me if I wanted to make a 'spin painting' with him, then I could take it home for a nominal fee (I think it was a fiver).

Thinking it was all cringeworthy and pretentious, I declined.

The 'clown' was Damien Hirst.

(around the same time my then-landlord offered me a large flat in Shoreditch for 60k. I declined that too. It's sold for well over a million since then. Financial genius, me.)

@throwawaymuse

I really started kicking myself after going to the 'Sensation' exhibition a few years later and he became a household name.

A lovely classy colleague gave me a gift for my birthday.
It was a little bottle with a solid silver top, probably for a dressing table. When I moved house I lost it then I remembered very clearly it going into a charity bag rather than another bag. Gutted! Not worth a fortune but I felt so silly!

I threw away a vinyl record once (a band no one had ever heard of) and later saw it on eBay for £120.
