DH has covid. Can a GP do anything. Or do I report and if so to whom.

Yesterday he had a saw throat. Fortunately I still had some tests left over.
Today he can hardly stand. Got out of bed and passed out.
Keeps being sick. Can only tolerate sips of water.
He says his head feels as though it's in a vice.
Temperature is over 39 but feels cold.
He is sleeping a lot.
Paracetamol every 4 hours but they come back when he's sick.
Any other suggestions on helping him.

I would call 111 for advice. I hope he feels better soon.

Twospaniels · 21/08/2023 19:17

I don’t think you have to test to report anymore. However, he sounds really poorly so I would ring 111

Mrsjayy · 21/08/2023 19:18

I would just monitor him keep up with his paracetamol and fluids. There isn't anybody to report to now I don't think.

No need to report anything but if he has been in contact with vulnerable people you could let them know.
You just need to treat his symptoms and call for advice if you are worried

Wtf? The man is passing out and doesn't seem to be keeping fluid down.

What a lovely way to speak to someone worried about their husband, I hope your shitty little comment made you feel better.

I think you're doing all you can OP but I would call 111.

Nanatokidsdogshampsters · 21/08/2023 19:25

@whatamess100 did you have to be so nasty. Does it make you feel clever.
I'm pissed off with people like you commenting on posts with no thought of others who are ill.

My husband is a 6ft 6 built like an outhouse. Is hardly ever Ill.

OP, trust your instincts and get him checked out if you feel you need to

I came down with it on Saturday. I am a chemo patient so classed as vulnerable. Government have sent me various letters over the years promising swift action to get me anti virals if I got covid to stop me from dying from it.

I've called 111 six times since Saturday.

  1. first reported it to them. Told them I had lots of covid symptoms and a positive covid test. Promised I'd be called back within two hours by a dr.
  2. six hours later another non-medical person called me. Forced me to go all the way through re-assessment including being assessed for stroke and meningitis even though I'd said I have covid symptoms and a positive covid test. They promised I'd be called back within ten minutes by a dr "he is sitting opposite me and he's just on a call, I'll get him to call you next."
  3. ten minutes later the phone rings. Its past midnight now. It's not a dr. It's another non-medical person who yet again forces me to go all the way through their assessment including loads of inane questions. I politely express my frustration and she tells me off. Promises someone who can prescribe anti virals will call me back.
  4. no phone call. I ring back at 9am so say my condition had worsened, temperature of 39.4 and that I was a chemo patient. She made me go through yet another inane assessment and told me off for saying could I please speak to a dr as I was promised 15 hours ago. She refused. Told me she'd done the referral and that service was available 24/7 so I'd be getting a call back shortly.
  5. it's now Monday at 7.25pm. It's over 48 hours since I called 111 to tell them that I was a stage four cancer patient on chemotherapy and I had covid symptoms and a positive covid test and that I'd been promised a swift response to get me anti virals.

I have still not been called back.

It is utterly shit. I've gone round and round in circles. Still not been able to speak to anyone at 111 who is medically trained.

As a vulnerable person I'm supposed to be top of the list, so to speak. So if this is 111's response to a critically vulnerable person, I don't think there is much hope for any non -vulnerable person to get any treatment.

I did speak to my GP today who has prescribed the drugs. She reassured me that temperature, sleeping, being sick, body aches and pains, feeling faint and a painful chest are all typical symptoms of covid and to keep taking paracetamol and ibuprofen and keep taking sips of water.

Itsnotrightbutitsok · 21/08/2023 19:36

I was like this when I had covid. It hit me like a ton of bricks but the worst of it only lasted 24/48 hours and then I just felt ill.

Can you get him any liquid paracetamol?

You can ring 111 but if they tell him to go to A&E he’ll be very uncomfortable for hours.

I’d try and give him some paracetamol and then give them a ring to see what they advise.
By the time they ring you back you’ll know if the paracetamol has started to work or not.

Itsnotrightbutitsok · 21/08/2023 19:37

@tryingtoflourish I’m so sorry to hear that. They must be very frustrating and scary for you.

ChrisPPancake · 21/08/2023 19:41

Is there a pharmacy near you that does paracetamol suppositories? If he can't keep it down he needs to stick it up..

I was like this a couple of weeks back (temp hit 40 at one point) but the worst bit was over within 48 hours.

This is appalling. How are you feeling now?

Quite scary that we've not even hit Winter yet.
