How can I find out who owns the land near my house?

We have been trying to get connected to the internet since February this year. BT have said that a line needs to be put up but they need to contact the land owners where the existing telegraph poles are. It’s just fields here and I don’t know who owns them.

Is there away that I can do their work for them find out without having to pay?

BT must have had contact with the landowner when the poles were installed. The information will be in their records somewhere.

Yeah there will be a wayleave payment going to someone.

To be honest though we have been in this situation as the landowner and don't tend to reply unless it's going cause us a massive issue.

A letter saying we are coming on X date ring us if its a problem is the best way to communicate with a farmer rather than asking them to respond more generally. Any letter received during lambing time/calving/ silage isn't going to be responded to unless absolutely urgent.

Hi everyone. I could do with some help as I feel I have gone down every avenue I can think of and am coming up with no answers. We live on a street with a row of terraced houses which is a dead end at the top. Tucked away in the top corner is a little area which is perfect to park my car (we also have parking outside our house big enough for one car) but as we are a two car family, I’d like to claim/buy the piece of land. I have asked the neighbours if they know who it belongs to and nobody has a clue and I have searched title deeds. The Title Register for the area has belonged to the same person since 1984 and none of the neighbours have ever heard of him. I’m really not sure now. Could I just claim it as adverse possession and mark it as private?? And help it advice would be appreciated. Thank you 😁

If it’s white it’s unregistered.

No - you don’t have the grounds for adverse possession.

@Gnomegnomegnome can you see the pink title deeds surrounding the area in white? Just checking that the correct layers on the map are on. If so it sounds like it's not registered with the Land Registry.
The local Council May or may not know about the land ownership. If it's unregistered and the Council are interested in it that may try to register the land themselves for eg if they want to build- develop the land ( I work for a Local Authority and we have done just that ). They also may not know anything about the land as the Land Registry is the first port of call - I hope you get sorted x

The Council cannot just claim unregistered land because they fancy building on it. They might be registering their land to build but they are not registering land in the way you describe. At the least, if they have grounds for adverse possession they’d only get possessory title which makes building it out risky.
